Best Dungeon Mag Adventure to run?

Reynard

aka Ian Eller
I may be running a 4E game in a week and a half and since this will be the second time i've run it and the first "real" adventure, I'd like to use a module. There will likely be 4 to 6 players, some familiar with 4E and some not. We'll likely have 8 or 10 hours to play.

Of the currently available Dungeon adventures, which is the best choice for a) a one off, and b) some relative newbism.

I had a lot of fun running "Last Breath of Ashenport" (Dungeon 156) for my group. To cut it down to 8 to 10 hours you will need to cut out several of the fights, as there are some tough fights againsts solo's in it. I am currently prepping "Sleeper in the Tomb of Dreams" (Dungeon 155) which is also looking promising, and I would most likely recomend it over Last Breaths due to the lack of Solo encounters.

I think a lot of people have done the HPE-series or the SoW thing. But Ari Marmell's adventures for Dungeon have been pretty good.

Haven't run any of the adventures from dungeon yet - my group is STILL on H1, they are Soooooo slow...

But last breath of ashenport I have read and it is very good. Lots of scope for some RP and interesting combats, also a nice Lovecraftian atmosphere.

I've heard some good things about Bordins Watch, it is a more linear and dungeon-crawlie, but for a one-off that can be cool.

I actually think that, with the chaotic mist battle at the beginning, and the social skill challenge, that Dark Heart of Mithrendain would be interesting.

If you can pull it off, I think "Depths of Avarice" can work too. It requires a mood, since it's creepy.
