Best meta-magic feats (with a house rule for instantly adding them)

Hey guys,

So, my DM made a house rule that any meta-magic feat can be applied to a spell you have memorized, it just bumps out a spell of the appropriate level. So, if I cast Magic Missile and added silence spell, I'd kick out a 2nd level spell.

So, with that in mind, what do you think are really nice meta-magic feats to have? (I'm a Cleric 5/Paladin 1, btw). I'm thinking Extend Spell so that I can take Persistent Spell, which many people have told me is very very useful. Anything else, or would the feats be better used elsewhere?

Keep in midn that the updated Persistent Spell is +6 spell level. So you won't be able to take this till much later.

Being a divine caster I'd recommend Extend Spell, Rapid Spell (for summoning spells), Reach Spell, Silent Spell, and quite possibly Transdimensional Spell (great against incorporeal, ethereal, and shadow creatures). Not sure what else. I haven't gone after Metamagic feats until our group switched to Spontaneous Metamagic (select feat and spontaneously cast at no spell level increase 3/day), and since then I haven't played a divine caster yet.

IMO, Reach Spell is one of the most useful metamagics for a cleric. When your front-line fighter gets knocked out, you can heal him while staying out of reach of the monster that got him.

You don't play sorcerers in your game, right? ;)

What happens with the actual spell then? Is it used up as well?

Anyways, with free application, any good metamagic feat is great.

Quicken Spell is much better than Persistant Spell in this case.
Energy Affinity (MiniHB 3.5 version of Energy Substitution) is very good, if you use some energy spells (best ones are often fire-based).
Empower or Maximize is great.
Twin is pretty good.
Heighten is also pretty cool, if you can apply it spontaneously.
Silent and Still are only really useful, if you can do so, but then they are often nice to have.
Reach is good for a cleric, as has been said.

Quicken can be good, but I don't think I'd learn any metamagic feats as a druid, there are way too many other useful ones out there. :)

Any recommendations for a feat?
Just turned lvl 12 yesterday and looking for ideas. I have always a hard time to decide one feats.
I have Track, Iron Will, Create Infusion, Fly-by-Attack and Natural Spell.

There are some really nice wild feats in Complete Divine, depending on your concept. Fast Wildshape for example.

If you can use 3.0 feats from MotW, that 120' Blindsight wild feat is obviously quite good. ;)

If you fight in Wildshape a lot, combat feats like Combat Expertise/Improved Trip or Improved Unarmed Strike/Improved Grapple are always good to have.

It really depends a lot on what your character does mostly, what feat would fit the best. :)

There is no chance my GM will approve this but I have Embrace the Wild and can get the Bat Blindsight.

I thought about Combat Expertise and Trip but I'm not much of a fighting Druid anymore. I'm rather the mage substitute in the party.

I probably have to ask my GM if I can have a look in his Complete Divine.

Ok, you've piqued my interest. Why Improved Unarmed Strike for fighting in wild shape?

Back to the question of feat recommendations, if you have a specific animal form you prefer above others, try looking in the Savage Species for some feats. You also might want to check out up Multiattack, Improved Multiattack, and Improved Natural Attack.
