TALISMAN!

Too bad I'd have to pawn my car to afford a set.

I concur, TALISMAN! TALISMAN! TALISMAN!

I'm lucky enuff to own a complete set with all expansions and the extra stuff from some old magazine.

Diplomacy

We never play it more than twice a year. Big risk of starting fights otherwise. ;)

Heh. Whenever my parents explain Diplomacy to someone new, they always recommend that couples come to the game in separate cars. Just in case.

When they were first introduced to it, one of the ended up taxiing home...

My favourite would be Britannia. Too bad it is not on the list.
Does anybody else know Britannia? I've only met two people
so far that knew Britannia as well...

How can you pick just one?

I think Settlers of Cataan is the coolest idea, but perhaps that's because I've played too much Axis and Allies...

Then there is Illuminati and Ogre, from SJ, along with Car Wars. Another cool game I've not played in a LOOOOOONG time.

And there are dozens of other games not even mentioned.

My favorite board game is ASL - Advanced Squad Leader - Now THERE is a serious wargame.

Off the supplied list I chose Axis & Allies.

However, I'd place all of the following ahead of A&A:
Diplomacy
Blood Bowl
Cosmic Encounter
Screenplay
Twister -- with the right people of course. Adding alcohol and rules which require the shedding of clothes help also ;) . Ah...college...coeds...good things!!

Big fan of diplomacy. And chess. And many other games. Someone mentioned Junta -- in the same humorous vein, there was also Wabbit Wampage and Wabbit's Revenge. But there's one game I really wish Games Workshop would re-release: The Fury of Dracula.

It's a cool game, based on the hunt for dracula in the original bram stoker book, but the best thing about the game is that one of the players is Dracula, and I've never played a game that helped me understand quite so well the standard villan mistakes from James Bond movies, among other things. It was such a cool, different game. Keep an eye out for it.
