Today's on screen adaptation poll is for the fighter. Some special rules around this poll:

  • Scope is limited to high fantasy TV and Movies only. No non fantasy, no anime, no literature, not comic books, etc. This is because there are soooo many fighter type characters, the poll would be over 100 strong. Ain't no one got time for that!
  • there are A LOT of characters that could be fighters, but are mostly fighter/rogues (like Dread Pirate Roberts, Inigo Montoya, or Arya). Because there are so many fighters, and those characters can easily fit a D&D rogue subclass archytpe, many will be in the rogue poll instead. Basically, most swashbucklers will be under rogue and not fighter for the purposes of this poll
  • I will try to limit it to the most famous or "best" fighters if there are too many choices from the same show or movie. GoT comes to mind here. I could easily have a dozen choices from just that show.

Rules: You get four options to choose from to answer the question, "If you were to show someone an onscreen character that best fits the D&D fighter, who would it be?"

Tried to stick to characters that wore good heavy armor, most of the time. Hallmark of the classic D&D fighter, doesn't make it to the screen often, especially helms (actors HATE having their faces covered!).

Here's what I have for the next poll: monk. Which obvious ones am I missing?

Ang (Last Airbender)

Caine (Kung Fu TV series)

Lee ( Bruce Lee, Enter the Dragon)

Little John (Robin Hood Prince of Thieves)

The Monkey King (Forbidden Kingdom)

Lu Yan (Forbidden Kingdom)

Dr. Yang (Iron Monkey)

Ip Man (Ip Man)

Wang Chi (Big Trouble in Little China)

Leroy Green (The Last Dragon)

Cadfael (Cadfael)

Ngihtcrawler (XMEN)

Scar (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Jedi (Star Wars)

Monk with no name (Bulletproof Monk)

Diana (D&D cartoon)

Diana was a thief-acrobat! A thief-acrobat I tell you :p

Even though I selected him, his lack of armor and weapon choices almost makes Garet Jax more of a monk than a fighter. But his iconic status as The Weapon Master just makes his selection too necessary. Wait, I'm thinking of the book, whereas this is referencing that crappy TV show I didn't watch, drat!

In 5e terms, she’s a total monk 😉

I voted for Jaime and the Hound. They're good at hitting stuff and not much else. Classic DnD fighter.

For Monks - oh so many choices. Every Wuxia movie ever made.
