I went back and forth on Madmartigan, but his biggest battle he wears full armor and goes gonzo. So fighter.

And who is the monk. If it's a great representation, then they must be included. I'm doing the poll shortly on that.

It's great but too obscure anyway, it's another character from Thunderbolt Fantasy.

So Sheng Bu Huan, the character, spends the show fighting off enemies with a sword but not really impressing the other swordsmen much... but then in episode 12 he throws his sword to protect an ally and its revealed that the sword was ACTUALLY A PIECE OF WOOD PAINTED SILVER!

When he's mocked for throwing away his weapon he picks up a stick and starts to MURDER dudes with it and he even cuts a dude's head using his cloak! It culminates with him blasting a guy's ribcage out his back with the same stick.

Turns out, he's a master of ki manipulation.

And this is all done with glove puppets...

Madmartigan I feel might be Sword/Valor bard, or at least multiclassed.

Got one of my votes. I based both a Fantasy Hero character (complete with a love interest & curse, though a geas rather than transformation, IIRC... it was a long time ago) and, more recently a D&D fighter (brawling build with a bit of TWF mixed in - modeled the style/fight-choreography of the character in the movie nicely) on him.

Got one of my votes. My vote too... to be honest just too many possibilities on this poll.

Though in 4e I would have built [Xena] as a type of Ranger.

How in the nine hells do you see Ranger in Xena? Sure Argo's her horse but he's no 'animal companion', and otherwise she's all Fighter all the time.

I didnt say beastmaster ranger ick , yeh... you could in 4e even be a ranger without nature skill let alone spell casting silliness (And back in 1e spell casting barely kicked in with level inappropriate abilities at high level yay). You want nature magic for your ranger in 4e you multi-class dabble or learn rituals (both easy to do and not flagged as game breakingly optional). You want to be awesome at a nature skill and do nigh impossible things with it make your wisdom a high secondary put a bit of feat power in it or even pick skill powers based on it for interesting details.

Ranger in this case selected is about fighting style - the Off-hand throwing weapon and extreme mobility fighting. The fighter didn't really go there. The ranger or barbarian however were pretty extraordinary at mobility.

The ranger was a subclass of fighter from the very beginning thinking it is hugely distinct seems strange to me. As being a ranger was being a fighter all the time just a style of one who eventually after hitting end career dabbled a bit in a game with meh for a skill system.
