Best...Puzzle...Ever....

Here's one, and it isn't a math question!

A man lies in a bed, murdered. On the nightstand next to him is a pair of scissors. The scissors are the murder weapon. But there is no cuts on the body, and no blood. How did he die?

Two solutions come immediately to mind. The first was obviously too simple.
1- The scissors were used as a blunt instrument.

The second solution is far more in the classic motif.
2- The murdered man was known to be afraid of scissors and the murderer threatened the victim until he was frightened to death.

You people are weird :)

The scissors are not a red herring.
There is no trauma to the body, blunt or otherwise.
He died to a physical reason, not from fear.

The scissors were used to cut the cord to the alarm clock on the nightstand, which was then wired to the bedframe!

Maybe he cut the gas line from the stove, then the guy died.
Oooor jimmied the air conditioner to not b turned off and turned it full on or full heat....

Umm...the scissors were used to puncture his waterbed and he drowned?

(Psst - By the way, it’s usually considered bad form to heckle those that are playing along at your guessing game.) ;)

How about this one:

Four people are set for execution. They are buried in sand with only their heads above ground. They can't turn their head. Then there's a wall placed between the first and second person (as shown on the pic). Then someone places a hat on their head. They all know there are 2 white and 2 black hats. They will be killed in 60 seconds, unless one of them says outloud what color his own hat is. He cannot say anything else. They can't communicate between each other. They can't see the hat on their own head.

After a little while, one of them knows for sure what color his own hat is.

Took me 15 minutes to figure this one out...

Took me 4 minutes :D , dunno if anyone has answered this yet, but here's mine:

Guy number 3 (counting from left to right) knows what colour his hat is. He knows this, because guy number four can't tell what colour his own hat is. Guy number 4 would be able tell which colour his hat was if the hats of guy nr 2 and nr 3 were the same colour. However, number three knows number four doesnt know which hat number four has on his head, so he knows that number two and himself have a white and a black hat. He can see that number 2 has a white hat, so he deduces that he himself has a black one.

Well, I know the Tolkien riddle you're talking about, but other than similarly silly ideas, I don't know what the one you're talking about would be. Wanna post the solution in spoiler tags?

Daniel

Actually, I'd rather not post the solution because thousands of persons view these boards and making riddles is hard! However, for those of you who REALLY need the solution, email me and I'll send it to you. Feel free to critique everything possibly wrong with it as well, as feedback is good.
