The first one is definitely a classic, but I went with #2 because of the whole super-villain, comic book fight, etc. Plus #1 had that whole silly "fly around the world and rewind time" scene, which knocks it down a notch in my eyes.

Hmmm. I think II is the best. Just for the supervillians and the supervillian fight. That still has to rate as one of the best comic book fights ever put on screen (perhaps a idea for a later poll?).

Superman I: lots of it is well done, and it is one of the most well done origin stories ever made, but the reverse time thing is dumb and their is no real threat. III and IV really drop the ball. III gets an honourable mention for the evil-superman junkyard fight. IV is just awful. Supergirl is not as bad as it was destined to be. I think it's better than III or IV.

Superman I is my favorite. Written by Mario "Godfather" Puzo, even!

For those saying the reverse-time doesn't fit, those were the kinds of things Superman was doing in comics back in the 70s. You can even say they toned him down! :)

As for the "teleporting" in Superman II, Supes and the 3 Big Bad Kryptonians were running around in superspeed. What I don't get is the giant plastic 'S' shield... :D

I had to go with I, although II was my favorite when I was little. But having bought both of them recently on DVD and watched them back to back, the first is the better film IMHO. II is fun, but the directing in it doesn't match the first one. Yes, the comic book fight scene is great, but the rest of the film doesn't work as well.

I know the movies but not the numbers.

Superman gets given red krypton
Superman battles Lex's creation on moon
Supperman and the dam
Superman and the evil people from krypton and the chamber
Did I miss any?

I've added the numbers below:

I voted for Superman I. I saw it many times over the years, but it wasn't until I was an adult that I started to notice all the nuances in it. for example when Clark is running to catch an elevator and says "Going down?' The guy in the elevator sticks his hand out and says "No! up, UP!" As a kid I thought, "what a rude guy." As an adult I realized "Ahh, allusion."

I kinda like the way he turned back time. Yeah, it isn't in his portfolio, and it doesn't make a lot of scientific sense, but it was an emotionally powerful scene for the Man of Steel.

The second movie always seemed a little too contrived for my taste.

I think that Superman I & II, put together, make the best superhero movie ever, despite some terrible flaws.

One of my main peeves, though, is the portrayal of Lex Luthor as a comedy villain.
