I may be a genre fan, but when it comes to TV theme song, I always like "Welcome Back [Kotter]" song by John Sebastian.

I think any list of greatest TV theme tunes should include The Prisoner

I had probably only heard of about a half of the tv shows on that top 40 list, and of the ones they had I felt the most memorable and durable themes were Doctor Who and Hawaii Five-O.

Interesting - I've just listened to Hawaii five-o again, and thematically it seems very similar to the earlier Prisoner!

(also that The Prisoner was another of the works of the mighty Ron Grainer, who we have to thank for Dr Who)

As with all such lists, it was doomed to failure to by its compilers inadequate breadth of knowledge and somewhat lacking taste.

Personally, I think Firefly should have easily made that list.

But this song, it was a SIN to miss! ( And it contains a rather blatant Easter Egg for all Battlestar Galactica fans. )

In any case, as much as I love Japanese theme songs, it might be kind of unfair to include them, as most were not written for that, and would totally blow everything else out of the water.
