Best Value for Money RPG Purchase

My original Wilderlands of High Fantasy from the late '70s. The boxed version is getting use, but ask me about that in 20 years and I'll see if its had as much as the original.

OD&D(1974) boxed set. it was way over priced ($10) for what i wanted to spend for a game at the time. but i have gotten a lot of use out of it.

Wouldn't that count as core rulebooks? :)

If we are talking enjoyment, then Complete Arcane, purely for the Warlock. I love playing that class! And it is a DM's dream for quick BBEG (or LBEG or MBEG...). I don't care how fast you can put to gether a wizard; you can put together a Warlock even faster.

Outside of d20, I'd have to say 50 Fathoms. I like the "plot point generator" idea.

I would mention that I got "Don't Rest Your Head" for $4.95 US on sale but that is a core rulebook for itself, I suppose.

Draconomicron. Got for $25 from a nice ENWorlder and it opened up a whole new era of dragon themed goodness.

Monster Manual 4 - same reason (except I bought it from my FLGS).

Traps & Treachery - got this for about $10 in a bargin bin sale. One of the best designed traps books out there and adds real interest to the standard dungeon delve.

Wilderness Lore - same as T&T for any outdoors activity. This thing is packed to the gills with useful stuff for adventuring outdoors.

I'm hoping to add World's Largest Dungeon and Rappan Athuk Reloaded when I recieve them :)

Aside from the GURPS 3e sourcebooks (which I totally agree are a super value) I would say that the best value product for me would be The Shady Dragon Inn accessory for Basic D&D. The NPC's and cool tavern map have seen use in almost every edition of the game that I have run.

funny how one mang's garbage is another mang's treasure.

i would say and have many times that the shady dragon inn is the absolute worst RPG product i have ever owned. bar none.

College-ruled filler paper, and a #2 pencil.

QFT

Given the three core rule books, all I need is paper and pencil to create a homebrew and campaign that could run for years. All other books are neat but nothing more than icing on the rather large cake.
