Betting on 4th ed 2008?

There will be no 4th edition.

There will be the D&D: Definitive Edition, that will be to 3.5 like 3.5 was to 3.0.

Otherwise, there shall be a pox upon their houses. :)

OK I'm listening... What would a publisher sponsor do?
Generously donate some of his unmarketable inventory as prizes, I suppose ;).

Anyway, I don't really think this will work with something like books. My guess is that the winning margins will be very low, except we bet on the exact release day.

After this, I won't have to spell out my tip, right ;)?

Really, I've joined the crowd saying "I'm happy with what I've got, let 'em do whatever they want with it, whenever they get around to it." To get me to jump to 4E, they'll really have to make it a significant improvement -- without invalidating all my work and tools for 3E at the same time.
Ditto.

Thank you. This 4E thing...seriously. I don't know where it'll take them, and I don't know why the big hype. I was upset my $2500+ worth of 2E material is crap...well, not all of it. The Forgotten Realms and some of the Planescape stuff is still good somewhat, that's about it. And I do house rule using PLAYER's OPTION: Combat&Tactics and Spells&Magic with their Critical Hit and Critical Strike tables for my games.

With so many optional rules, guidelines, a book like Unearthed Arcana, 3rd party products, and personal house rules, why would anyone want to give up all of that and start back from scratch with a completely new edition?

I mean, come on, tell me what 4E can do that you can't do for 3E? Seriously. I betcha not one logical answer will come up.

Besides, they just came out with a brand new campaign setting, EBERRON. It just recently evolved and walked on land so I doubt WotC will rain meteors on it already. :\

My related prediction is that they'll do a new edition of the Star Wars RPG to take advantage of the tv show, help push the minis, and plug the sales gap as 3.5 becomes a lame duck.

Oooh. TV show? I'd heard rumours but this is good news. Off to see what it's all about! Neat!

Neh. I'm afraid that if they are anything like the prequels, they'll be dissapointing. Still, one can hope...

Really? TSR did it with the Forgotten Realms. Less than 2 years after putting out the initial FR boxed set and modules, they came out with 2E and everything changed again. Indeed, they took their own sweet time about updating the core FR stuff; it was more than two (three?) years later that they did another FR campaign setting book but that was probably due to coordinating it with the novels or something.
