I think there might be a clever way involving something like bringing large objects to cap off the traps. Personally though, I just
used feather fall and turn-based mode to jump down past them.
There used to be a good solution to the problem in beta, which they inexplicably nerfed in live, and I have to say I'm kind of mad about it.
In beta you could send in stuff that was immune to the clouds to disarm the traps, or alternatively you could throw flame sources, like candles, into the traps, and that would keep them burning and not spreading. Neither of those works anymore - the disarm DC is now like 30 or something utterly stupid for a mission you'll likely be on at level 3-4 - and the flame stuff is now super-buggy and mostly doesn't work, with the gas coming back near-instantly and not always igniting even when it touches a naked flame. So instead of you have to dip into your camp's barrel/box stock (ugh) and throw that on top of the vents for a much dumber and less interesting solution but one that actually works.

Ah see this was my initial thought. Burn it out. When that didnt work, and the Disarm wasnt going to work for me at the level, I said ef this.

The whole Barrel/Box-mancy stuff I would like to avoid as much as possible, I hated it in EA.

Yup.

It's like, yes, almost any situation in the game can be cheesed with enough crates and barrels, but this is D&D, not DOS1, and I don't want them making it so that's the only viable solution. In this case, they seem to have elaborately engineered the situation to make barrels by far the easiest way to deal with this, and it's like... why?!?

And they did so in an area where there weren't any immediately available, further encouraging you to either use the additional cheese of teleporting to your camp and back, or take to carrying around spare barrels everywhere.

So far I've managed to get through the game without resorting to such cheesiness, it's just a bit annoying knowing it's out there.

Yeah, I dont want to belabour the point, but thats exactly it. I want to play D&D, and I want to play my character(s). Moving Barrels around is playing the GAME, but its not D&D to me, and its certainly not my Character.

It was (along with the movement system) my primary issue with EA, and so far I havent been held back by it so thats promising I guess.

I mean, I used de-group and feather fall myself the first time. It was very tedious, but it did work. Using items to cover the vents worked so much more quickly. And you can't tell me that some actual D&D groups wouldn't come up with a "cover the vents" strategy in tabletop play.
