Big combats take too much time for us.

Soldiers are very useful to block melee characters, help give their allies CA and keep defenders busy, but never have more than 2-3 in a fight. They only serve to make fights take way too long, as they do not offer enough DPR to put the characters into significant danger while their defences are higher.

Now that's solid advice. I might need to get better at reskinning though. I have MM1 and 2 but it's still hard to find the monster I want. I do know how to quickly level up or down a given monster.

Yeah, six soldiers will always make for a long fight! They have a huge "effective hit points": when you consider their defenses and their hit points, they math out to have more hit points than brutes.

I'd recommend no more than 2, ever, at a time; augment them with skirmishers.

A line of ten armored humans in my world would likely consist of 1 or 2 soldiers, 1 brute, 3 or 4 skirmishers, and 3 to 5 'tough minions'.
