D&D 5E "Big Summer Adventure" Drow related? Announcement imminent?

View attachment 137250

Is it probable? Yeah, based on the UA. But we do know a lot of material ends up on the cutting room floor, so we don't actually know if there is a dragon book that will be published.

Anyway, I personally don't think a Drow book is the next adventure. It could be, but I do feel like WotC is trying to release very unique adventures every year, exploring diverse environments. We already have Out of the Abyss, I doubt we would get another Underdark focused book.

I also really doubt this is a setting book, because Drizz't is extremely Sword Coast focused, and that book already happened.
I'm still sticking with thinking a Feywild story with Baba Yaga overtones is a good possibility.

I've learned from hard experience never to make iron-clad blanket statements like this.

Because things can change, and then such statements will be dragged back out.

I'm not saying that things will change. But you probably should leave yourself an out as an insurance against potential future embarrassment...
And I've learned from experience that I'm almost always right. And also that (almost) no one will believe me because they are incapable of seeing past "what I want" and looking objectively. And that no one apologises after it turns out I was right.

So I'm willing to stand by my deductions.

I think the Feywild project will be the Christmas release. Although a product that includes both elves and fey seems more plausible than one that combines dragons and drow.

I don't think WotC would be doing such a major Drizzt push if it was only for one product.
That's not a half-bad idea, though I would think if this was happening they would have rolled it out with the whole Drizzt thing yesterday.
Gotta build up the hype first.

I was wondering if they were building up to a Drizzt-themed game book or adventure, and now I see that I don't have to create the thread for it!
I definitely think we could be seeing a full Drizzt adventure this year, more than likely not in the Underdark or Menzoberranzan (as they've been covered in Out of the Abyss). I do think it could explore the new drow cities and cultures.

It could also be something completely different and unexpected, like the Spanish Inquisition.

Another thing I've been pondering today is whether we might instead see Into the Abyss, with the PCs facing down Lolth herself in the Demonweb Pits at the end. This would enable the Udadrow to be freed of her influence, without any retconning.
A remake of Queen of the Demonweb Pits is not outside of the realm of possibility!

This... is a joke right? It's very hard to take seriously "I've learned from experience I'm always right." Like, lol ok.

Nearly always right.

And, sorry, but it's true. That is my personal experience. These things really aren't that difficult to predict if you keep your eyes, ears and mind open look at the evidence objectively. Being objective seems to be what most people find virtually impossible.

I would guess more of a re-imagining of Vault of the Drow/QotDWP in the way that Storm King's Thunder is a re-imagining of Against the Giants and Princes of the Apocalypse is a re-imagining of Temple of Elemental Evil. Probably with added Drizzt.

It's not easy thinking of a challenge for level 20 characters, but fighting Lloth on her home turf would certainly qualify.

There is an article about re-imagining Lloth floating around too. It's for her MtG card, but maybe not only for that.

I'd spend money on it.

Paul, whilst I agree with your "things aren't that difficult to predict", I strongly suspect if you kept a spreadsheet of things you'd predicted vs. what actually happened, you'd probably see it was more like 60% than the 90%+ that "nearly always right" would suggest. There's also the "last-minute divert" factor where a lot of the time, someone is predicting one thing generally, and a few weeks before release, something comes up that suggests it's something else entirely, and the predictor switches to the different thing, and so is "right", but like, if you tracked predictions month on month, it would show a more nuanced picture.

I mean, but again I do agree people act like stuff is harder to predict than it actually is. As a fellow prognosticator across various fandoms, I've got a hell of stuff right*, and can generally spot stuff that is dead wrong. At this point, I'd say the odds of Drizzt featuring in the summer adventure are pretty damn high, and basically if he doesn't, it'll be because he features in some other major product shortly.

* = My proudest being guessing Star Trek Enterprise's setting (including specific time period), visual style (down to specific colours used), the broad sweeps of the main characters, and so on, more than two years before it actually came out. I did actually get minor approbation on the Star Trek board I used to post on for that, but loads of people jumped on the train in the weeks before it actually became clear, but where leaks were making it pretty obvious, so my once-Cassandra-ish status was forgotten. Also I didn't guess how bad it would suck.

Roughly 80% I would guess, depending on how you draw the line between the "mostly rights" and "spot on". I'm certainly right often enough to feel confident, and my view on other people's success rate is probably coloured by the people who are very insistently and loudly wrong. I expect there are quite a few people who just nod in agreement and move on.

There are a couple of names on this forum who have a good track record (you are one, @Parmandur is another), I always listen to what they have to say. Nothing beats a good track record.
