D&D 5E "Big Summer Adventure" Drow related? Announcement imminent?

Time will tell! I think a return to the Demonweb Pits certainly fits with Wizards' MO of namechecking and referencing older classics. As for whether or not Lolth is needed or not, it'll depend on how they weigh the importance of drow as iconic villains vs. the importance of moving away from the evil drow monoculture in its entirety - whether it's enough to just add more drow while keeping the originals in play. I couldn't say which way that arithmetic would play out.

Perhaps someone has already mentioned this, but my recollection is that it was hinted in Out of the Abyss that Lolth had engineered the demon incursion to get the demon lords out of the way for some personal plot. That always seemed like a setup for a future adventure (or novel), and I don't believe they resolved it. Or if they did, I missed it.

I don't recall what the explanation was, but both Orcus and Lolth were notably absent. Orcas was the center of the AL modules, dunning Lolth ever got any other attention.

I recall Chris Perkins saying that there was a whole storyline around Orcus that we never saw because of some behind the scenes issues. Might have been a novel that never came to fruition. But I never heard anything similar about Lolth.

Here it is from an AMA:

Out of the Abyss, what drove the decision to not include any section directly dealing with Orcus? Simple time and space or was there a reason he isn’t featured in the main storyline until right at the very end? I’m DMing it and I’m thinking of putting in something involving him, possibly as a side-adventure before they go to see Bruenor. Any advice you could give?
We were counting on a novel to deal with the Orcus subplot. The novel fell through for reasons beyond our control.

Remembering back, their was content released for the Sword Coast Legends computer game shortly before it folded that tied into Out of the Abyss and had Drizzt in it.

Yeah, Lolth was behind the Rage of Demons, to facilitate a power play that I don't think ever played out.

Orcus' absence was such a bummer - he's probably my favorite Demon Lord. I had plans for inserting this whole subplot involving him into the module, but my players didn't follow up on the hook that would've led there.

Just like DESCENT INTO AVERNUS tied into BALDUR'S GATE III and RIME OF THE FROSTMAIDEN tied into the upcoming DARK ALLIANCE video game, I expect the big summer adventure to tie into one of the other four or five unannounced but teased video games that are in the works
Or Neverwinter as the movie is set there
