Now I am imagining a "wildspace" where you could put all giants from all editions. It would like a postapocaliptic ghost town, built by an acient civiliation of collossal humanoids. The rulers are the giants, or the noble houses of giants, but these need the help of smaller humanoids. Some times there are "raids" of brainless meneater collosal "husks", and the giants are the preys. (They aren't undead, but more a mixture of elemental and plant) They aren't enoughly interested into smaller humanoids but if they are easy to be catched. Gnomes and halflings are wellcome, if they can defend their zones, and they are good riders of flying creatures, perfect to shoot explosive arrows from.

Not as such, but the book goes into it: apparently the opening splash page to the internet is his death at hands of a Giant tossed boulder, before being Reincarnated as a Gnome.

No. While the new goliath would have been thematically appropriate, I assume they came to be too late in the schedule to make space for them.
Luckily, they're earmarked for the '24 PHB, so we'll be getting them regardless, just not quite yet.
