Birthright anyone still play ?

imo the battle system didnt take the pc's actions into account enough. you basically add/subtract numbers and get a result. the optional rules of dm fiat were much better but their are now quite a few different 3 edition mass combat rules available or soon to be so thats always an option and probably the better one if its a 3.0/3.5 game

Hmmm... yeah I agree on that. The game should always consider the roles of the PCs as that is all just part of the fun factor. But what do you think would help alleviate this problem with adding and subtracting numbers to get a result? I mean after all that is what all the games are based on anyway.

I really wouldn't want to "mess" with the system to much but in playing a 3.0/3.5 game I would want to use of the 3rd party companies rules for mass combat. If I remember correctly, Skip Williams who helped write the Birthright setting also worked on a set of mass combat rules. I saw something about it on his website. That's probably the rules I'd want to read as I've been very pleased with almost everything he's done in the past that I've used in my games. Skip Williams rocks!

Skip is actually the one working on the Cry Havok book, if that helps any. And yes, Skip rocks! I've checked out some of the other systems mentioned above, but so far, from what I've seen of Cry Havok, it seems to be the easiest most fluid system yet for doing mass combat. Can't wait to unleash it on Athas . . .

What always bugged me about the war card system was that, as far as I could tell, the numbers of the resolutions careds were completely random[/i]. The few occassions I bothered to use it, the relative strengths of the units involved made no difference.

As a matter of fact, I'm going to be starting up another BR campaign fairly soon :)

Is this a campaign that would be easier to play online.... With the "slow" play of the nations, if I remember correct, it really seems like natural for pbp. Well as long as you kept the pc in the same kingdom as if they where competing agaist each other to much info would be shared via post.

anyhow, has any one tried it? I do have alot of it in storage... :D

I agree completely about the warcards randomness...
I thought Skip was working on new rules...cool...thanks for the name and info.

I havent ever played Birthright by pbp but would be willing to give it a shot if anyone else is interested...I could run or play...you are probably right that it might be a "natural" for pbp

I am a huge Birthright fan, have been since it first came out.But I have not played/ran the setting in a few years really.
I am curious to see how many people, if any, are still playing ?

Not playing currently. Still like the setting a lot, bunches of ideas from it now grace my homebrew. I loved how they jammed so many adventuring sites into each domain. Roesone, I think, was the one with big hole in the ground that had been a goblin stronghold and the elven ruins in the marsh. Bordered by the Spiderhaunt and not-completely friendly neighbor nations. Just great.

If I had a chance to play now I would like to do an adventuring company that may be Blooded, but not yet regents. I think that would be cool to see who gets yanked to a position of responsiblity first and who gets to be callow youth a bit longer. Group could be made up of various blooded children who become the allies and confidants of the one who rules. I think that would be a blast.

and no, I'm not up to running it. :)
