Blade Barrier Cheese (135d6 damage)

FireLance

Legend
This requires the use of a 18th-level medium-size Lawful Good monk, a 15th-level cleric with the Purify Spell feat from the Book of Exalted Deeds, and an Evil opponent.

In round 1, the monk grapples the opponent.

In round 2, the cleric casts Purified Blade Barrier next to the monk (which does no damage to Good creatures). If the monk wins the grapple check, he can move at half speed (45 ft.), bringing his opponent with him. He moves through the Blade Barrier 9 times, and the grappled opponent takes 15d6 damage each time (Reflex save half). 9 x 15d6 = 135d6.

Would the grappled creature get Reflex Saves to avoid the damage?

Well, you loose your Dex bonus to AC when grappled, but I've never been clear on weather or not loosing your Dex equates to loosing your ability to Reflex away from something.

I believe this has be discussed before.

Logic may say no Ref save but the rules say yes. You're not helpless you're simply less able to move. I think a reflex save (I would say w/o Dex bonus) would indicate that you managed to use the monk to shield you from the worst of the blades...he takes no damage but still keeps some of the blades away from you.

I would further rule that the Blade Barrier can't affect the same person more than once a round. Otherwise it gets icky.

The simpler way is for the monk to to pin the opponent across the blade barrier. Pinned = helpless and 0 Dex, IIRC.
Just maintain the pin until there's nothing left. Then it's only once per round, no issues, as long as you can win grapple checks.
