Bless Water and it's component

In my current game I am playing one of two clerics. We and the DM where discussing the cost for Bless Water. The component is 25gp's of powdered silver. We thought this was a little steep. Does anyone know if this is an error or if it is correct.

Thanks,

Bryan

That's what the book says, and it also says that churches sell Holy Water "at cost" because it's only useful in the fight against Evil.

I've always been amused that it takes a half pound of silver to make a few fluid ounces of water holy. Seems like holy water ought to hurt lycanthropes, too, what with it being more silver than water. ;)

Yeah, heh. 25gp worth of powdered silver.

It's not so much the holyness, or really the water that does the damage.. it's the fact that you're clocking the evil with a couple pounds of moist silver dust. Sort of like a Sacred Sap, really. To imagine what it's like, just take your average sock and fill it about 2/3rds of the way with sand. Pour in a tablespoon or two of tap water, knot it closed, and viola - "Holy Water"
