Blood and Guts: questions and comments

Ok- having looked through the rules again Im not 100% that competence bonuses dont stack, however, like the bonus granted by occupation (which explicitly a one-time bonus) you only get the bonus once.

In most cases MOS and advanced training are like occupations that you can buy with feats under specialized circumstances. But they mostly work in the same manner.

Lol. You sound so happy, and I'm glad I could help :)

There are some new BNG books on the way as well, including the upcoming BNG: In her Majesty's Service (focusing on the Britons) written by board regular Fraser Ronald.

Another thing I was thinking...maybe a Basic Training feat, which basically lets the character take Military as a bonus occupation.

Otherwise, there's no way for my Blue Collar mechanic to become a SEAL, or for my Academic anthropology student to become a Green Beret intelligence officer, because the Military occupation is your foot in the door for everything.

Ooohhh, how about a B&G book of bad guys?

Well, there is Blood and Guts: War on Terror which has terrorist and guerilla classes, information on real world terror organizations, and NPCs of various levels statted up. The product was at least intended to be BNG's "monster manual".

I like this idea a lot.

Consider it OGC.

I've been statting up a bunch of 16th level characters --- Base Class 3 / Base Class 3 / Martial Arts Master 2 / Special Forces 4 / Advanced Class 4. The idea is that they were all Green Berets in the first Gulf War, then left the service and went on to become experts in a variety of scientific and technical fields. So far I've been able to make them work even with Miltary as a starting occupation for each of them...

Thanks for that intro, Chuck!

I am really looking forward to hearing what everyone has to say about "BNG:IHMS". It was a blast to research and write. I mean, who could turn down a chance to do game stats for the SAS? Not that it's all about the SAS.

The question is, what's the colour of the boat house at Hereford?

General observation...

It's so tough to make a satisfying leader character.

Three levels of Smart gets you Savant: Knowledge [tactics] and Plan. Balance that out with three levels of Charismatic [to get a couple of the Leadership talents].

And that's all well and good...but it doesn't do much for your BAB or get you much closer to your elite unit prestige class of choice.

I might just start the leader type at a higher level than everyone else....

Vig, I looked at it some more, and I think a single Special Forces Operations class would do the trick for commissioned officers, A-team operations sergeants [veteran NCOs, usually Master Sergeants], and warrant officers [2nd in command of an A-team, and apparently usually promoted up from operations sergeants].

They'd need basic proficiency in all five SF specializations [not too hard to do, given the cross-training class feature], plus Jump School, DLI, etc.
