Bo9S question

Bourbon and Dice
I don't have the books in front of me, so I hope I remember correctly how this all works. Something occured to me during lunch today and I was wondering if it's possible.

The warblade has an ability to change the assosiated weapon of any feat he has each day. For example, change WF Longsword to WF Greatsword. The only stipulation is that all his feats must remain legal. i.e. If he had WF Longsword and WS Longsword, he could not change the WS to Greatsword unless he already had WF Greatsword or also changed the WF Longsword to WF Greatsword. That part I'm pretty sure I've got right, the rest of the wording...not so much.

Now, there is a feat that allows you to add your dexterity to damage when you are in a shadow stance and using one of the shadow discipline weapons.

Can you see where I'm going? :) Could a warblade use his weapon feat switching ability to switch out the weapons he's allowed to use his dex bonus on? He would still have to meet the requirement of being in a shadow stance though.

The GM in me is saying not no, but heck no. The rules lawyer in me is wondering if this is legal by the RAW.

That feat is not a weapon specific feat in the sense of Weapon Focus et. al. You don't choose a weapon to apply it to, you just take the feat and it works in certain circumstances (while wielding a Shadow Hand weapon and in a Shadow Hand stance). Warblades get to change their choice of weapon for weapon specific feats, not to change the rules of the feats themselves. No using weapon aptitude to change Weapon Finesse to apply to greataxes, no using weapon aptitude to change the Shadow Hand feat to apply to non-Shadow Hand weapons.

It's not a feat that requires you to select a weapon to which it applies. It always applies to the same set of weapons. Therefore it is not affected by the warblade's ability.

In the same but slightly different sense... Always wondered if the Weapon Aptitude would let a warblade change something like Melee Weapon Mastery.. ie. from piercing weapons to slashing weapons and such... or if taking said feat would just severely limit what you could then change your other feats to, 'cuz they'd still have to be legal

I would say that a warblade could not change weapon mastery, as it is not a specific weapon. Of course hey could still get the benefit by changing the weapon focus and specialization to another weapon of the same type (slashing to slashing) but if hey changed their focus and specialization to another type (slashing to blunt) then they would lose access to weapon mastery

Yes, Exotic Weapon Prof counts as one of the feats that a Warblade can reassign. I'm less sure about the Samurai version, because it's a class feature that grants a specific version and not a feat where you have the potential to pick different versions.

I wouldn't have a problem with the samurai/warblade reassigning the proficiency. It won't make the character any more powerful, just slightly more flexible.

But if you have proficiency with a weapon, aren't you considered as having the feat for all intents and purposes?

So a Warblade can trade Martial Weapon Proficiency (Greatsword) for Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Spiked Chain)
