Bogged down by D&D grapple rules.

Does anyone out there have a simpler set of grappling rules? I ask because the ones presented in the PHB are so tedious and covoluted as to make them unplayable. That is if you understand them at all. I'm looking for something with as few rolls as possible and fewer modifiers.

No problem Wise. Happy to help where I can.

if you have a non-rules question (IE Scarred Lands related perhaps), I'll be happy to help there too.

Len,

Not sure that's as helpful as he was looking for. I mean it's nice don't get me wrong, but some how...it seems like he wants different rules. Or at least compatible to d20/D&D.

Nightfall's right, that's exactly what I want. Something easier than the existing rules that can be figured out and enacted very quickly. The current rules are cumbersome and take forever to resolve a single round of combat.

I don't recall if this will help Wise, but check out Iron Heroes' rule set. I don't know if they have a simpler grappling system but worth checking out. I don't believe AE/AU changed anything (about grappling) so might not be useful to you.

I never thought grapple was that bad, once you learn it.

If you are updating from a previous version of D&D to 3.5 and are muddling through it cold, yeah, can be a pain to learn. Try thinking happy thoughts and it may help.

Break it down to it's basic elements:
AoO (if no imp. grapple)
Touch attack
Opposed STR check

So you are looking at four dice rolls, usually three...Oh! The Horror!

Or is there something especially hard and time consuming that I am missing here?

I think hes getting confused by the large area of possible actions.

While at it i want to confirm something.

Let us say bob suceeds in the touch attacks, starts a grapple, and wins the opposed check. He deals damage.

Now, does he need to spend an additional round of grappling to pin his opponent, or does the pinning occur automatically when he wins the first opposed check?
