"Blast" was a rushed patch because wotc had trouble designing Cones on the square grid of 4E D&D combat that worked the same when used diagonally. Cones were still in as recent as when the 2.0 DDM rules were finalized.

Not true.

Blast was a simpler way to do cone-type effects, and one that obviated the need for templates at all. It's a faster solution that gets the same type of effect (something emanating from you that hits several people).

As far as doing ranged blasts, I don't think there's much point. Once you're at range, the different ways you can position a blast vs. a burst don't really matter. At most, it would be a way to shoot around cover differently, to shoot outside range, or to target 4 or 16 squares instead of 9/25, but none of those is significant enough to muddy up the area attacks.

I agree. I can hardly wait for the updated mini rules. The cones and lines in DDM2.0 are my major nitpicks.

And thanks for chiming in :)

Because this is a rushed product. What did you expect?

Between your post, and your sig, I take it you aren't a fan of 4e. This is a forum for rules discussion. It is not the forum for airing your grievances against an entire edition.

Next time, if you have constructive input about the rules feel free to mention it. But take the general criticism elsewhere.

If it is unclear why I ask this, please feel free to take it to e-mail.
