BotR Holy Warriors vs. Dragon's alt. Paladins

Much prefer the BoTR Holy Warriors - they make sense given the greater context of thier respective churches and that what makes them work.

The problem with the Alt-Paladins (and the paladin for that matter) is that they are taken out of context of thier faith structure - and as such make less sense - leaving it up to the DM to create the assosciated structure.

In my current campaign we are using BotR Holy Warriors. We like the fact that a character can dedicate him/herself as a Holy Warrior, not just the Lawful Good types. It's the concept of Standing Up For What You Believe In, rather than being caught in the alignment trap.

Then again, my last three games had no alignment at all, only Reputations.

Personally I liked it that way :D

I don't have either but I do have Diablo d20 and AU's way of hte sword.

I really liked the Diablo paladin concept, lots of class flavored powers you choose, no spells. Unfortunately the mechanics were poorly executed and the individual powers would need to be completely reworked to make them work.

I'm hopeful the AU champions will be neat, but I haven't read them over yet.

Two good paladin books are Chainmail bikini's Call of Duty and Malladin Gate's Forgotten Heroes Paladins, both with bunches of alternate paladins and paladin prestige classes. The paladin in my group really found them useful and inspirational in coming up with religion specific prcs and feats to work out with our DM.

AU Champions are nice Voad, but I haven't used them meself.

In regards to the alt paladins...they are a viable option, but I feel after reading BotR, realistical I like Holy Warrior.

I also liek the flexibility of the domain type structure that the BotR holy warriors have. I guess I'll have to readjust their ability progression to fit the new paladin's.

Unless the Unholy Warriors book is 3.5?

I am coming to the belief more and more that paladins should be a prestige class. The requirements are tough and you get the magic horse at the first level of the class. It makes more sense that way.

Anyone have the link to the PrC version that got cut from the DMG?

Aaron.
