[BoVD, BoEF, Vile] Where do you say "unacceptable?"

NUDITY IN MY GAMES: Pretty common. Villains often attack when the PCs are vulnerable - in the bedroom, in the bath, taking a dip in the pool - and often PCs who sleep in the nude will only go for weapons, not clothes when reacting to an alarm. It is also often encountered in a cultural context - the party in one campaign is currently in a country modelled after classic Greece, and the athletes compete in the nude.

NUDITY IN MY BOOKS: Doesn't matter to me unless it is not to my taste.

SEX IN MY GAMES: Many PCs have an active sex life, some are engaged, others promiscous. It does not get graphic, however, no matter whether a couple retires for the night or the temple of the lust goddess has an orgy. The closest I have come to graphic descriptions was probably when a PC was being seduced by an NPC rogue who kneed him suddenly in the groin while covering his mouth with hers to cover his cries. Hints are common in descriptions though.

SEX IN MY BOOKS: No problem.

NECROPHILIA: Again it is more a matter of taste. I don't see a problem with Vampires getting some (and a PC or two slept with a vampire, but I I doubt I would describe a rotting lich engaging in such an activity if it was not really part of a story - and I don't think it will ever be.

BESTIALITY: I don't think I will use that in a game apart from jokes about peasants.

INTER-SPECIES SEX: Happens often between humanoids in my game. The party just visited a brothel where all kind of exotic creatures were on the staff.

VIOLENCE: Not too graphic, mainly for describing the finishing blows ("You blow his head off". "The elf sinks to the ground with his heart pierced." etc.) and for atmosphere ("The widening pool of blood at your feats" "Body parts lying around, partially chewed" etc.)

TORTURE: Not in details, but happens to PCs and NPCs, and is done by NPCs.

MUTILATION: Very rarely. I had an NPC who had lost his hand in war, and who got it regenerated by the party.

CHILD MOLESTATION/ABUSE: I rarely use this, and then only hinted at when needed for a story, to make a villain truly hated.

I would give my games an "R" rating.

As long as it logically follows from or ties into a plot point, I don't have a problem with any of the subjects in the original post popping up in games or in books. When it's an attempt to increase the 'eww/kool' factor, or increase sales, then it can be left on the doorstep.

A lot of it depends on the genre I'm running. If I'm doing a 4-color superhero game, then there's going to be a lot more violence and only the vaguest hints of dark dealings involving kids, goats, what have you. If I'm doing a Call of Cthulhu or WoD game, sky's the limit.

Of course, if a player informs me that he or she finds a particular thing uncomfortable, then it gets dropped at once.

I try to keep a lot of things as a sidebar. It happens but not at the table, the players can discuss it and add detail as THEY see fit.

NUDITY IN MY GAMES: Yes. People take off their clothes, people take baths, people are slaves and people get seduced.

Did you know that the human female is the only mammal with breast? Oh sure others have mammary glands but that is not the same thing.

NUDITY IN MY BOOKS: Not a problem. I am a mature.

SEX IN MY GAMES: Sidebar.

SEX IN MY BOOKS: Half this, half that, it has been in them for a long time but not in detail because these are not sex books, these are game books.

NECROPHILIA: In a game where you have so many forms of undead, it really can’t be helped. Sidebar but defined as an evil act in my games.

BESTIALITY: No.

INTER-SPECIES SEX: Sidebar but call it exotic. :)

PREGNANCY: You do the dance you face the facts. It is the cycle of life but mostly handled sidebar and as plot device.

HOMOSEXUALITY: Sidebar but characters/NPCs have been.

INCEST: No.

POLYGAMY: Harems, different towns/ports, things happen and let the players deal with it.

VIOLENCE: Use adjectives in combat but don’t go into blood and gore.

TORTURE: Sidebar considered an evil act.

CHILD MOLESTATION/ABUSE: No.

MENTAL ILLNESS: It is a side effect to a number of actions and will affect the game.

NUDITY IN MY GAMES: Acceptable when appropriate.

NUDITY IN MY BOOKS: I don't care one way or the other.

SEX IN MY GAMES: Flirting and heavy innuendo are acceptable. Actual sex is done off-stage.

SEX IN MY BOOKS: If appropriate, it is just fine.

NECROPHILIA: If appropriate (a lonely necromancer...).

BESTIALITY: If appropriate (a lonely sheepherder...).

INCEST: Happens in real life, so I don't see why games should be any different. Most intelligent beings consider it a taboo, however.

INTER-SPECIES SEX: Well, those half-dragons have to be coming from SOMEWHERE. So, yes, and as much of it as appropriate for the region, culture, and story.

S/M: Used when appropriate (clergy of Loviatar and such).

VIOLENCE: Graphical, but not extremely so.

TORTURE: Mostly offstage, unless it's one of the PCs.

MUTILATION: Offstage.

CHILD MOLESTATION/ABUSE: Off-stage, although the age limit for what's considered a child is lower than IRL (14, 15, 16, etc., depending on culture).

NUDITY IN MY GAMES: Its never come up. The only female player tends to wear clothes and I don't try to titilate the male players.

NUDITY IN MY BOOKS: I don't mind one "pin-up" per book. But I draw the line at anything more revealing than what could be found in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.

SEX IN MY GAMES: Its never come up. The one female player is the alternate DMs wife and they can "role-play" on their own as far as I'm concerned. Anything else is simply noted as an aside (e.g. "the baroness is having an affair with a knight, will you tell the baron?")

SEX IN MY BOOKS: I don't mind - and to some degree expect - notes about who is shagging who. If a baroness is having an affair with a knight, that's the kind of stuff that can lead to a plot point.

NECROPHILIA: No and no.

BESTIALITY: No and no.

INTER-SPECIES SEX: No and no.

VIOLENCE: Nothing that couldn't be found in the original Star Wars trilogy.

TORTURE: Offstage.

MUTILATION: Offstage.

CHILD MOLESTATION/ABUSE: NEVER. Never, ever. Mock me if you will, but I have a nine-year-old brother and this one line I will not cross.

If I feel it's appropriate for the campaign I'm running, then it's in. If it's not currently appropriate for my campaign then it's out.

My take on the matter is this:

Do what you feel most comfortable with.

As for my group, pretty much anything goes as long as it's fairly tastefully done, for the most part. I was in a Vampire:TM game where some pretty distasteful things DID happen. But then, everyone in the the game were adults and, other than the OOC "ewww." that most of us uttered, nothing horrible happened because of it.

I'd say that, if there was someone in the group who was "under the age of concent" it would be different. I certainly wouldn't run an adenture that way in that case.

Also, in one of the current campaigns I'm in, one of the PC's is a priest of the FR goddess of hedonism (forgot who that goddess is, and don't have the books handy here at work) and therefore, essentially is always looking for a "good time". We don't go really indepth into what she does when she's in town...mostly just the "you take the guy up to your room...Yes, it was fun..." type of thing. Nothing terribly graphic.

In regards to the issues brought forth in this, most of them (necrophilia, beastiality, etc.) I would use if it made sense in the game. However, I wouldn't get into graphic descriptions of anything like that. And I wouldn't go out of my way to PUT anything like that in a game I was running.

Jeremy

I play with a group of mature adults; we don't shy away from most of these subjects. There's an evil god of necrophilia, for instance, and one of the female pcs is pregnant right now (and already has a half-dragon love child).

I don't mind sexy pics in the books if they aren't gratuitous. The 1e MM, for instance, has a lot of sexy naked she-monsters in it, as does the 1e Deities and Demigods.

Ultimately, I want the game to be fun for everyone, so I try to draw the line where it offends someone in the group (either myself or one of the players). Also, I find that gruesome things are less offensive if treated with a dash of humor.

In response to...

"Where do you say "unacceptable?""

My only relevent response is...

at the cash register, or actually right before, when i do not choose to spend my money on certain products.
