Well, it does have that "mature" sticker on it. I'd hardly call the guy an idiot for covering his ass in case concerned parents come a-callin'. Take it as a compliment on your rosy cheeks and baby-soft skin.

It was a gamestore called Rainy Day Games. Don't know if its a chain or not. I walked in to see if they had any in stock and didn't see any. The manager (a guy in his mid-40's) asked if he could help me and as I was about to leave commented that I was just looking for the Book of Vile Darkness but obviously they didn't have any.

He says, "Yes we do, but we keep them behind the counter because they have mature content." I thought okay, random, but was glad they had it.

Then as I'm pulling out a Mastercard the guy tells me he has to check my id because of the content. To be honest I didn't think anything of it because I'm so used to be carded at clubs and bars and such.

After I paid and was starting to leave a father in his late 30's who was at the counter with his 10 year old son asked the manager what was in the book I just bought. He said, "Its for Dungeons and Dragons, and has lots of Mature Content[tm]. No sex, but lots of violence. Its for making campaigns really evil."

I was this close to stopping and saying "Now I know how to properly sacrifice puppies before my ritual suicide muahahahaha" or something to that effect but was already in stride and just left. When I got home and started looking at the book it hit me, I'm 28 years old and just got carded to buy a game book??? I can only laugh at the thought that this book was actually that dangerous in the wrong hands combined with the fact the guy at the store actually thought I might pass for 17.
