BoVD: How's this for random...

The people at my FLGS told me they carded to help sales. Apparently I was the first person to be carded an not buy it immediately. Then hyperbole doth run rampant in the gaming community.

Thaumaturge.

p.s. After I was paid I went back and purchased it. :)

ROFL! I can just picture him making some excuse to leave...

He didn't have to think that hard. I was trying to come up with reasons just as fast.

His extremist approach to Christianity never really phased me. Him turning into a pony-tailed yuppie kinda freaked me out :)

When I bought mine, there was a kid buying some card game at the counter. The store owner looked at the kid, who did not care what I had purchased and said "Now, see this label Jhonny? That means you cant buy it!" The kid looked up from his cards with an expression like "hugh?! what are you talking about? I was having a fine time with these cards, I cant buy what?" It was classic.

It was a gamestore called Rainy Day Games. Don't know if its a chain or not. I walked in to see if they had any in stock and didn't see any. The manager (a guy in his mid-40's) asked if he could help me and as I was about to leave commented that I was just looking for the Book of Vile Darkness but obviously they didn't have any.

Hah!

Small world.

That's were I bought my copy of the BoVD.

They kept it behind the counter and wouldn't let me open the cover in store, as there were several minors about the place.

Didn't bother me too much.

He didn't card me though. Perhaps it was the presence of the wife and two 'chillens that convinced him I was old enough to buy.

PS: Boy, that store is WELL stocked with board games.

WoW.

I had similar randomness. I didn't get carded, but I did run into this guy I was friends with in highschool and hadn't seen in about ten years when I was eating lunch in the foodcourt and leafing through the book. He was a somewhat hardcore christian that had always worried about the impact DnD would have on my spiritual life. There was an uncomfortable silence when he noticed the book I was reading :)

I bought the book yesterday, and I have to report for Jury Duty 8:00 Monday morning. I plan to wear my black Redgar 3e t-shirt and take the BOVD for reading material. I should be home by 8:15

When I was 14 and a freshman in High School, adults would ask me what grade I was in and I'd tell them I was a freshman. They'd ask what college I was going to.

When I was 22, I was asked by a clerk at McDonalds if I had a son who went to her High School.

I'm 32. I got carded for the BoVD. It was a strange experience since I'm used to people thinking I'm older than I am, not younger.

Heh. Just wait till someone packs it in their carry-on when going through airport security.

Now that, I wouldn't recommend. Airport security have never been known for their sense of humor, and it's gotten worse in the last year, for obvious reasons.

My FLGS sold out of BoVD! They have two locations, so they called the other one for me, and held the last copy. I drove to the other side of the county just to get BoVD. They didn't card me, but then, both owners know me by name, so that isn't really an indicator of what they would do with a stranger. Well, that and the fact that I haven't looked under 21 for at least 10 years. I'm now usually thought to be in my early 30s, which is a great compliment.:p
