I'd prefer a book that was as equally interested in exploring the real evil: deception. Body piercings, tatoos and a focus on excretions in all their various forms is only part of the definition of the word vile.
Normally art doesn't influence my decisions concerning purchasing gaming material, but this is a rare abberation.

Actually, I pretty much liked the artbut, also as someone who only flipped through it at the FLGS, didn't see the discussion of evil and its archetypes like AEG's Evil. I guess my beef is that the book had all these **specific** ideas that wasn't presented in a cohesive whole. I haven't been in the Dungeon and Dragon magazine loop, but haven't seen any precedence for the various classes, items, and spells presented in the BoVD. Myself, I would have devoted a section to each of the dark gods and dark races (plus Vecna!) fleshing them out to "plug in" to the generic D&D world. Each section would discuss the god or race, its influence over the world (and why it hasn't taken it over yet!), its prestige classes, and magic items associated with it. Or maybe I just missed that part.
