BOYCOTT of Wotc miniatures

Maybe these are higher quailty minis than the first two batches, due to feedback from people like us? Maybe they're paying for better paint jobs, and passing the higher cost on to us?

I'm not defending WotC, but I want to see the new minis before I condone whining like a stuck sow. Maybe the higher-priced ones will be better (yay!), maybe they'll just be more expensive (boo!).

i know i've been a good customer and answered their feedback call.

for the 75 boosters i've bought, i've filled out every single one of those customer cards. ;)

i'll probably buy the new line. but with the increase i'll definitely buy less.

i hate the random nature of the packs. i hate the lousy paint jobs. and i hate the price for fricking plastic.

if i want cheap plastic i can buy 100 army men for $1 at the Dollar store.

In less than 48 hours I have purchased 10 boosters and a starter kit. I will continue to buy as many as I can, in spite of the price increase. I have no complaints with the minis I have bought thus far. The price increase, while I hope it doesn't go too much higher, is fine for right now.

The paint jobs, while I have noticed an ocasional problem, aren't terrible IMO. They are better than a solid color of molded plastic or an unpainted metal mini. I have 98 D&D minis that have a paint job above my skill level of painting. I expect that if I painted 98 miniatures my skill level would improve, however, my investment in time and money would be far greater. Likewise, these minis seem more durable to average wear and tear. Less chance of a broken sword and so on. My only complaints would be the randomness as well as the rarity of certain minis. I would like to see Wizards of the Coast do something to suppliment these things. For example, monsters that are usually encountered in groups or pack (orcs, goblins, lizard folk, kolbolds, wolves, harpies, etc.) should also be sold in packs. If you wanted to, and you needed a few more orcs, you could get an orc pack. It would give those who want to use minis in their game a little more control over the situation. The random factor is fine to a certain degree, but I would rather have 10 orcs than 10 drunken masters. Some of the minis, it seems, are only useful to a point. Monsters like orcs, on the other hand, are always useful. I would like to be able to start getting some of these monsters in bulk. Similar with dragons or other rare but useful monsters. It should be possible for a DM whos PCs are about to encounter a dragon to have one on hand when the need arises, and one of the proper color. In my boosters, 4 of which were Dragonseye, I was lucky enough to score the black dragon and a small white dragon. However some of the other chromatics would be nice too. I'd like to have a green, blue and red.

Those are just some of my feelings on the minis, they are pretty nice IMO and I will not be boycotting WotC. Those that do are just leaving more minis in circulation for me to buy. And that increases my chances of getting my chromatic dragons. :D

Something I noticed while shopping for singles, it seems that traditional DnD creatures that are "commons" are worth more than commons that have no aesthetic value. Orcish, zombie, skeletons, and such all seem to have a slightly higher price than some uncommons (tiefling captain?). I wouldn't know if this is based on their abilities in the minis game, though, because I don't know how to play.

If you want them in bulk, you can get most "common" pieces for less than 50 cents. Some of the semi-useful hoardes (drow) are uncommon and rate at $1.00-$1.50, and the useful-but-rare things like mind-flayers and trolls are pretty damn expensive... and not worth it.

Would you mind giving me a link or two for the places that deal in singles? That would help out alot. Thanks.

I can say with cmplete confidence that Harbinger and Dragoneye sets will NOT be going up in price, even after the new sets are released.

I think you don't understand the concept of a collectable game then. Harbinger has stopped production, and are already becoming harder to buy, unopenned Harbinger boxes are therefore likely to go up in price in the not too distant future once Wizards have emptied there warehouse (much like what has happened with unopened Magic booster of earlier sets). Same thing will happen with Dragoneye.

Perhaps you ment to say Retail Recommend Price.

Well there is a trading board called MaxMinis. I have filled most of the gaps in my collection.

There is also a site that sells individual minis called Popular Collections . They also sell cases of minis at a bulk rate around $115 or something per case. There are 16 boosters in a case, so it definately cheaper to go this way instead of buying individual boosters at FLGS.

"Yo, Sal...I'm organizing a BOYCOTT of Wizards' minis. You down?"

All I can say is that, at $13.00 a box, competitvely priced or not, WotC WILL lose me as a customer on that item. I honestly can't justify paying that much for a box. At 2 boxes, I'm about two dollars away from a rulebook of some sort; I'll have to stick with paper counters instead of expanding my mini collection.

Popular Collections, looks like a great site. Taelorn, do you know is it possible to order several of the same figures at the same time? For example, would I be able to get 3 or 4 orcs in one order? Or when they show something on their page, do they only have one or two in stock at a given time?
