Boycott VH1

I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't subscribe to cable until I could pick and choose from the channels and only be charged for what I wanted. (I may have to break that promise when new episodes of Futurama start airing on Comedy Central!) VH1 and MTV would be two examples of channels I would want to skip.

Personally I have been boycotting MTV and VH1 for over 5 years now. I just listen to the dedicated music channels, all music, most of the time. Nothing I consider to be absolute trash to assault my tastes.

It used to be a lot better. They'd show plenty of music videos. You didn't have to stay up until 10 for a specialty block of rock or heavy metal. The Behind the Musics were usually about interesting people. VH1 didn't have this obsession with giving B and C list "celebrities" time to riff about Numa Numa and Easy Bake ovens. I say VH1 has, I know its a little tired, jumped the shark.

Product boycotts? No. The rich people want you to think it is bad so you don't hurt their bottom line or stock values, but boycotting something is the only real way to get the rich boys to listen to you when they don't listen to you before you get ticked off enough to boycott. Same thing with the evil job strikers. How dare they cost the rich boys money because they don't share enough of the wealth to begin with? Strikers are bad, bad people! How dare they stand up for their own interests!

VH-1 actually still does make some of the best music related documentaries out there, but they really have started playing too many reality & showbiz-related countdown shows in the past year or so.

That said, they still show more videos than any of the other video channels except MTV2...and even MTV2 is starting to let non-music shows eat up more of the programming day.

(And MTV is GARBAGE!)
