Boycott VH1

Indeed. The target is under 30 years old. I'm not, and haven't been for too long. :D

We've got digital cable, which comes with several different VH1 and MTV channels. VH1 Classic is almost all videos, mostly from the 70s and 80s. Good stuff.

That's it - VH1 Classic! I've seen some good concerts on there too.

I'm going back to my rocking chair and Geritol now. :)

Wait, didn't VH1 do an "Every Music Video Ever" Countdown round about Jan 2000? Cause that was neat.

I believe that was MTV2 that did that. Not really a countdown, but every music video in their library in alphabetical order. We spent a lot of time that week at my in-laws house watching it on Direct TV (or whatever it is they have)

I'm still waiting to get my life back from some of the crap MTV and VH-1 has inflicted on me. Surreal Life, MTV's "We need reality TV!" (insert your hatred here), bad showing of anime....etc.

The thing is, I actually like some of the shows, like Pimp My Ride. Obviously, that show has only the most tenuous link to music (with Xhibit as the host), but its still got a huge KEWL factor. And, of course, the VH-1 documentaries are dang good- HEAVY, the History of Heavy Metal was simply awesome.

But even most of them (even the good ones) don't belong on MUSIC television of any kind.

Vee Aech Won was the German-Chinese lead singer/guitarist for legendary jazz-fusion band, Schnitzel Foo Jüngen, who started up a video channel and named it after himself.

Danny,

Please stop feeding the troll.

Eh VH-1 does SOME good documentaries...but over all I can leave it. The only time I'll ever truly watch it is when "Some Kind of Monster" the movie comes on.

Really? I could have sworn he was Swedish-Korean, but that could just be me....

@ Ni
I start a thread write a post about how Scarred Lands = major sux0r ;)

I nearly killed my TV last night.

I was scrollling thorugh the channel guide not paying a lot of attention.

(I have a MUSIC favorites list, neither MTV, MTV2, or VH-1 is on it. I repeat. On a list of channels DEDICATED to MUSIC, MUSIC Television, MUSIC Television 2, or Video Hits One is musical enough to make the cut).

So, I flip to that favorites list & see that the horribly stupid Hogan KNows Best is on VH-1. Then I remember VH-1 ain't on that list.

It's CMT.

CMT (Which is to the point of not airing videos a whole lot) is showing VH-1 Re-runs.

CMT is now dead to me.

Viacom has been the big dog of video channels for so long they just don't care.

They adopted the "Make Profits by minimizing costs method". You make a cheesy reality show or pseudo-documentary & re-run every 2 days for 3 years and you can be pretty sure to get your money back.

Sure, you get a gem every now & again, put you still have to sit through 6,130 hours of steaming piles of elephant poo for the 20 hours of goodness they show a year.

I have no problem with a channel deciding to go in a different direction. I just don't like being held hostage to this new format.

When TNN (The Nashville Network) decided to totally change their focus, they renamed the Channel Spike to better reflect their new status.

MTV (And most Viacom 'Music Channels') should be competing with the Reality Channel for space on the Cable Channel, not Fuse & IMF.

That's what I really hate. Dish Network STILL lists MTV et al with all the other 'Music Channels' when it has nothing to do with music any more. They should bump it up with all the psuedo reality channels and make room for real Music Videos lower down.

The Cable/Sat exec who actually has the guts to tell Viacom they are droping their 'Music' Channels to a Higher Tier, as they no longer represent a 'Basic Music Channel' but are a 'Specialist Genre Channel' would ger three Huzzahs from me.
