Boycott VH1

I hate to break it to you, but if you remember when MTV and VH1 used to show music videos and music-related programming like I do, then you are no longer their target audience. ;)

If you do want to see videos on VH1, I believe there's a VH1 2 channel that does show them, but I don't think it comes in the more basic cable packages.

I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't subscribe to cable until I could pick and choose from the channels and only be charged for what I wanted. (I may have to break that promise when new episodes of Futurama start airing on Comedy Central!) VH1 and MTV would be two examples of channels I would want to skip.

actually, i had heard that the new episodes of Futurama were being created as straight-to-DVD movies. i could be wrong though. they may not make it to TV anytime soon.

If I recall correctly, I think the new episodes will be airing on TV in 2008.

If I boycotted every station that I disagreed with about programming choices, I would watch even less TV than I already do.

I assume the reason VH1 runs all that stuff instead of music videos is that more people watch, rather than less. In addition, the idea of limited set programming makes it harder to sell advertising.

Music video channels will probably never return. Few people will probably be willing to sit around waiting for a cool video to air when they can download it off the internet.

I'll put myself on the skewer by saying that I watch Surreal Life on VH1, and the "I Love the 70's/80's/90's" series. Can't get into Hogan knows best or most of the other stuff they air, but Surreal life is something the wife and I can get together and gab about, and the 80's flashback shows are my guilty pleasure. :D

I like VH1. I Like their countdowns. They are like crack to me. It's one of the few channels I bother watching, specifically because I like the countdowns. And they do show videos, if you watch on Saturday & Sunday mornings.

Indeed. The target is under 30 years old. I'm not, and haven't been for too long. :D

We've got digital cable, which comes with several different VH1 and MTV channels. VH1 Classic is almost all videos, mostly from the 70s and 80s. Good stuff.

I haven't watched MTV in quite a while. No music videos except late mornings. Same for VH1. I really miss FUSE. They really played videos and LOTS of them. They mainly played new rock, alternative and hiphop songs. But all their programming involve videos. Like Henry, I watch the 80s flashback shows they've done.

The last thing I saw on VH1 and MTV was either Remote Control hosted by Colin Quinn, or the music video to "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes.

Can't say I've missed much. :)

EDIT:

Wait, didn't VH1 do an "Every Music Video Ever" Countdown round about Jan 2000? Cause that was neat.
