Armor Bonus: The protective value of the armor. Bonuses from armor and a shield stack. This bonus is an armor bonus, so it does not stack with other effects that increase an armor bonus, such as the mage armor spell or bracers of armor.

Enhancement: An enhancement bonus represents an increase in the strength or effectiveness of a character’s armor or weapon or a general bonus to an ability score.

The key point here is that an enhancement bonus on armor does not enhance your Armor Class directly, it enhances the armor bonus of the armor you're wearing. Thus what the rogue in question has, essentially, is a suit of studded leather that provides a +5 armor bonus, as well as bracers that provide a +4 armor bonus. Since they don't stack, only the armor bonus from the leather will apply.

Are you trying to say that the Enhancement bonus isn't a bonus to armour class, it's a bonus to Armour bonus provided by the armour?

An "enhancement bonus" is NOT a type of bonus

Bonuses of the same type don't stack, so if enhancement isn't a type of bonus, then enhancement bonuses stack with each other.

In other words, they are inexorably linked to the thing they are enhancing. In this case, the leather armor is enhanced, as opposed to the character having a stackable ehancement bonus to armor.

And I think that's really what you meant to say - the important question to ask and answer is "Enhancement bonus to what?"

An enhancement bonus on a suit of armor improves the armor's Armor bonus to AC - it doesn't [directly] improve your AC at all.
