Brainstorm awesome Ranger build

Of course this is yet another ranger build thread, but they're just soo versatile. Anyway, my concept is somewhat based off "Aragolas" (LotR) a wood elf ranger thats fast, stealthy, skillful, and of couse deadly. His philosophy is very interesting too. So I was thinking of tying in ToB custom Crusader. His fighting style/philosophy would be like a mixture of DS,DW,IH,and TC. He believes that with enough devotion and will he can acomplish superhuman feats and believes that he can channel righteous anger as an energy source for this. He also believes that his purpose in life is to achieve perfection of mind/body/soul as a whole. He looks to nature for inspiration. Like the Commercial "Industrial progress has only made things worse." He wants to live in harmony with nature and teach others to do the same. I feel this character should be very close to the Forest Revee/Dread Commando/Dervish(kinda) feel but IDK how to fit it all in one character. Weapons:Scimitar(hadafang), Meteor Hammer(pwnage), and longbow. I also lean towards an alt. ranger that replaces fighting style with bonus feats and would like to find a way to stack levels for Manuevers. I know this is really long but any ideas would be apreciated. By the way I use 3.5. thanks,Rawion Erubaud

Lets break it down a little bit to make it easier to work with:

1) What kind of combatant are you looking at- primarily melee or primarily ranged?

2) What kind of Ranger is he: hostile to civilization; prefers nature to civilization; likes both equally; prefers civilization to nature; hostile to nature?

3) What kind of goals does he have?

4) What level of PC are you starting with?

5) What books do you have available to use?

ok
1) primarily melee
2) prefers nature but not hostile to civ. except gross polution, deforestation, etc.
3)Goals: self perfection, make civ. in harmony with nature
4)Starting from square one I think. have'nt started game yet.
5) I have most of 3.5 suppliments. ToB, RoW, RoD, RoS, CA, CW, CC, CS, CA, CD, Expanded Psionic Handbook, Exalted Deeds, HoB, UA, Planar Handbook

I would strongly suggest heading to the Character Optimisation board over at Wizards of the Coast and then find the old 3.5E version of that board. The guys there are amazing when it comes to building characters and there are -stacks- of "guidebooks" to building specific characters.

If you can't find the board just let me know here and I will find it for you.

Most, but not all, melee-oriented Rangers go 2WF in some way. Longsword/Rapier partnered with Shortsword or Kukri was pretty common for a while.

However, I'm also big fan of Morningstar (does 2 types of damage) or Flail (good for disarms & trips) and Spiked Shield, taking some of the shield Feats along the way.

Exotic 1-handed weapons like Bastard Swords, Mauls, Dwarven Waraxe, Dwarven Urgosh and Warmaces are also good for this build if you don't mind burning that Feat.

For a Nature-centric Ranger, any 1-handed Axe would also be thematically appropriate- its a very common tool for the wilderness. In fact, a 2-Axe Ranger is kind of fun, and there are a few minis out there that are made like that (I've seen an Elf and Dwarf ranger with 2 axes).

A Ranger with a high Dex and a bit more nature-centric than most would be more inclined to get Masterwork Scale or Hide- maximizing both his protection and his Dex bonus, while not being as conspicuous (in role-play, not mechanically) as a shiny metal breastplate.
