Brutal Mystic Theurge Combo

I just assumed that I would disallow any attempt to use a "+1 to spellcasting class level" on any prestige class. Core classes or nothing, please.

Not that anyone's tried.

What I like is that ur-priests can use any clerical spell regardless of alignment. So I had the first ur-priest the PCs met use Summon Monster to throw a Hound Archon at them. I imagine the Hound Archon was pissed too.

Ur priest is a cool concept that would have been far, far better served by just being represented with levels in cleric and perhaps a custom domain.

9 caster levels in 10 class levels is broken UNLESS you can't take the last level of the class before level 17 (ie - the minimum level to start in the class should be level 7)

A good example is the Divine Crusader. You need BAB+7 to enter so the earliest you can get a 9th level spell is 16th level and that requires a CHA of 28!

Because all spells come from a single cleric domain the class loses a lot of spell casting flexibilty and the casting level is low. I find it a very nice way to diversify a fighter or Paladin.

The UR Priest is a problem because it can be entered early, you cna amp the caster level and you have access to ALL cleric spells.

Sorceror(10)/Apostle of Peace(1)/Mystic Theurge(9).

9th level arcane spells, with a caster level of 19.

9th level divine spells, with a caster level of 15 (1, plus half of Sor(10), plus 9).

One cheesed character. ^_^ Okay, granted, he's an absolute and utter PACIFIST ...

... but that's what spontaneous use of the Nonlethal Spell metamagic is FOR. ^_^
Where'd you get the Nonlethal Spell feat from, Pax?

Given 30 levels to play with ... ? Sor(10)/Apostle(10)/Theurge(10). 20th level spellcasting for Sorceror, 25th level spellcasting for Apostle [10 innate, 10 theurge, and half of Sor(10)]. Still one cheesed character with access to both 9th level arcane AND 9th level divine spells.
Is that really better than a 30th-level sorcerer, though? Familiar Spell plus three epic bonus feats plus no VoP, non-violence, or general "exaltedness" restrictions. (Or, better still, Wiz10/Lor20; epic bonus feats plus extra item creation and metamagic feats plus loremaster abilities plus no VoP/non-violence/exalted restrictions.) In a setting in which you're using a pacifist, dirt-poor character concept to cheese out a caster, I imagine that a properly cheesed out straight arcane spellcaster would be much, much deadlier, if less versatile. But that's IMHO...

Someone suggest a way to fix it. :)

Adding Knowledge (Religion) 13 ranks to the requirements for the class would immediately undermine most of the worst abuses.

You would not be able to enter before 11th level. It would reduce the number of cheesy multi-class combos that work well. You could get no more than 8 levels of mystic theruge with UR priest and you would get ninth level spells at 19th level.

That would curb abuses considerably.
