I think more subclass abilities that make spells of that specialization better. Similar to how illusions cast by an Illusionist are more flexible or can fool more senses. Ideally there'd be an ability that boosts the effectiveness of cantrips of that school as well.

Allow a wizard to maintain their concentration on two spells so long as one is of their specialization school.

And finally, Metamagic for Wizards (really all casters). How come the brainiacs of these fantasy worlds haven't found a way to alter the parameters of their spells they supposedly have an unparalleled academic knowledge of? I'd give up the flexibility of spontaneous casting for metamagic.
