Would using a wand count as casting a spell?

Bartoficer wants to know.
Under "Activating a Magic Item" in chapter 7 of the DMG this would be referred to as "casting a spell from an item". Under each wand description it will read "While holding the wand, you can cast one of the spells..." or something similar like "charges to cast..."

According to the language the character is casting a spell without expending a spell slot. So a 14th level valor bard with battle magic could use a wand to cast a spell and then use a bonus action to take an attack.

I'll take that as a no raging wand of magic missile then.

Still, 3 levels into UA Armorer gives you the only other thrown ranged weapon besides dart.

I'm not talking about your classification this time.

But by RAW, does Rage prevent you from using a wand of Magic Missile or Pipes of Haunting?

Rage says nothing about magic action so RAW Pipes of Haunting is fine because that does not cast a spell. Same with Necklace of Fireballs, I think that is fine too because it "detonates" like a Fireball but you do not "cast" Fireball. Any other item that uses a Magic Action but does not cast a spell or cause concentration should be good to go.

Something like Wand of Magic Missile or Wand of Fear or Wand of Fireballs is different. I would say you can't do it based on the wording:

"You can cast .... from it" or "You can expend .... to cast from it"

These both use "you" as the subject of the sentence and therefore I would say that yes you are casting a spell and can't do that in Rage.
