Building a Horde (help me create my campaign!)

Taloras

First Post
Ok. I had an idea for a new campaign, one in which a Horde of about a million creatures (a conglomeration of the various races they have defeated and subjugated) invades Faerun. Now im trying to create this Horde. The story behind the Horde is that they go world hopping....using portals to go from one world to another, consuming all that they can on one world before moving on to the next. They kill the adults and raise the children of their enemies as new Horde members. Now im trying to figure out what races to put in, what percentages, and percentages of how many should be children. Can anyone help me?

Ive already got for the races
Humans
Elves
Half Elves
Orcs
Half Orcs
Goblin
Hobgoblin
Bugbear
Kobolds
Planetouched(rare, and never aasimar)
Gnomes
Minotaurs
Dwarves
Gnolls
Ogres
Trolls

With the way I picture the Horde, they have no clerical magic (the originators of the Horde didnt have gods, and the children they take are raised as atheists. Druids, paladins, and clerics are unknown. Im going to use a variant ranger that doesnt use spells. With the nomadic way of life, i cant see monks in the group either. Wizards are rare, with sorcerors being a bit more common (about .1% of the adult population is a wizard, with sorcerors being closer to 2%). There are no aristocrats, its a very militaristic group. Im figuring on having it mostly warriors, experts, some barbarians, fighters, rangers, and rogues. Rogues and rangers are the scouts, warriors, barbarians and fighters are the main army, and the experts are the workers. They dont farm, they steal everything.

Now the question is, what other races should I add in? what percentages are they? and what percentages should the classes be? Im pretty sure that warriors would be the highest percentage, with fighters being a bit more rare (not everyone has that knack for fighting), barbarians are somewhat rare, seeing as they are in some form of civilization. rangers and rogues are specialists. Experts would have a small percentage, mostly cooks, smiths, fletchers, bowyers, etc.

Any help?

EDIT: Added in more races....

Modrons are creatures of Law. You know what a Slaad is, right? It's a creature of Chaos. A Modron is the opposite. Take a look at some Planescape material for more in depth info (specifically "Planes of Law").

This Horde couldn't be a Million+ without some sort of organization. They'd all starve to death and fight amongst themselves, and you'd end up with a bunch of small hordes. Look at what happened to the empires of Alexander, Ghengis Khan, Charmalagne, etc after their deaths. Everything fell apart.

The Githyanki invasion in Dragon 309 (?) provides an example of an interplanar invasion, if you're interested.

If you want to get a good organization for this army so that it won't collapse under its own weight, look at Hobgoblin organization. Everyone knows exactly what they have to do, and things run smoothly. Modrons and Formians are similar in organizational sophistication.

There will definitely be some kind of organization....mostly on a military level. There will be one all powerful LE overlord. Most of the creatures vary between LN, LE, NE and N. The few that are CE tend to be the barbarians they throw in the front to soften up the opponents. The reason im not putting monks in is because they dont stay in one place long enough to set up a monastery. There will be maybe a few monks (those who were raised for the first few years of their lives that way, and continued while being raised to fight unarmed and unarmored), but no more than a few hundred at the most. in a horde of a million +, thats a very very small percentage, and the likelyhood of the PCs going up against them is very small. However, considering how many of that horde would be women, children, and craftsmen, the size of the army will be considerably lower. Of course, the PCs wont fight most of the horde (in fact, part of the end of the plot will involve them trying to shut the portal or use some artifact to destroy the world the horde was on before most of it moves through. This will of course be coordinated with attacks by the local armies protecting against the horde

So basically you have 1 million+ people that would rather continually kill people for food, rather than just grow it themselves? Do they have a disease that makes them allergic to dirt or something? :D

Why don't they just stop in a world and get a bunch of slaves to do everything for them?

Didn't i see this in Independance Day? ;-P

Curiosity asks, what drive some of those races to get involved, how do they keep order? Is there a super-duper overlord of mass power?

I'd raise the number of wizards and sorcerers in the Horde. If there's any campaign world that would have the firepower necessary to deal with an army of 1 million sociopaths, it'd be the Realms.

But yeah, just what runs the Horde? The Horde sounds kinda like a weaker version of the Burning Legion from Warcraft, which was run by a Titan and his two uber-demon subcommanders. Is there some sort of Council that manages the Horde, perhaps, with each race represented on the Council?
