Buying a New Monster Book

I understand what your saying. I however see them as generic SINCE I've had time to read each one and thus assess how it would fit inside some of the WotC D&D worlds.

Also, if you want conversions of classic creatures, you may want to hold out for the upcoming Tome of Horrors.

NOW NOW NOW!!!! ... well okay waiting until next month might be a good idea, at least then I can afford it :)

I had a chance to peruse (only) the Creatures of Rokugan ... I was impressed by it, and when/if finances get better I might pick it up.

I'll second the Monsternomicon and Liber Bestarius. Go with the Monsternomicon if you want a little bit of steam-punkish type of creatures, or lots of undead. Liber Bestarius is a little better rounded regarding types of creatures, and has some true gems in there. Oh, and you can't go wrong with Green Ronin's Legions of Hell or Armies of the Abyss- though these books are (understandably) fiend-heavy.

I've got Creatures of Rokugan and even though I dont run an OA/Rokugan campaign, I thought the book was very well done. Pretty cool ideas and monsters, laid out nicely, and nothing seemed to be way outta balance.
