Buying RPG books from used book stores

First Post
I just recently discovered that one of the local used book stores sells ALOT of used RPG books. When I say ALOT, I mean anything from books that just came out last month to OOP books from way back during the days of BASIC DND. In addition, the prices range anywhere from 10-20% off for books that just came out to less than $5 for the OOP stuff.

Do any of you buy "used" RPG books?

We have one large used book store here, and used to have two more. At one point, I'd go to most of them every other day or every third day. Never once in years of going to them all did I ever see a game book for sale, not in any section. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I'd ask the proprietors and they'd never heard of anyone bringing one in. Sad.

EBay & the local game stores are my primary source of used/OOP RPG material. That being said the "Half-Priced Books" chain stores do seem to get their share of RPG books from time to time...

On a regular basis. I've even lucked into a few RPG items at yard sales.

Half Price Books

Allow me to echo Krieg's comment about Half Price Books. It is a chain book store that operates in many cities in the Midwest. If you can find one near you, it will definitely be worth your while. Half Price Books is a resale shop where all the books are marked down to half price OR LESS! I do all of my RPG shopping there (except for the very few things that I have to have as soon as they come out).

My FLGS has a used gaming book section right next to the section with all the new releases. I always browse through it when I'm there and have made many purchases from those boxes. I should mention that the store also sells new and used comics and is a used book exchange, so it's not that surprising that they have used game books.

There are many game books that I would pay a used book price for that I would never buy at full price.

Same here. I usually check out at least 2 out of the 3 Half Priced Books stores in Indianapolis when I head down there to game.

My inlaws live in Bellingham, WA, so my wife often cross over into the Great Republic to visit them. Bellingham has two amazing used book stores: Michael's and Henderson. Henderson has no RPG books, but Michael's has literally hundreds. My last foray at Michael's turned up the following used RPG books:

Boot Hill (3rd edition)
Gangbusters (still shrink wrapped)
All the hardcovers from AD&D 1st edition (seriously...all of 'em)
countless modules from AD&D 1st and 2nd
Mint condition 2e AD&D Monstrous Manual

on and on and on...truly awesome.

The answer to your question is yes. ;)
