Buying single DDM online--whaddaya think?

Personally, I use them for DDM and D&D, and I am also a compulsive collector. I must have complete sets, or I start killing people again. ;)

Anyway, I got three cases from underdark, and after that, missed 4 rares. I got those on eBay, Buy it now offers from a single shop. Herotown, if you're interested. Had decent prices, and they were pretty damn fast with their delivery. Ordered saturday evening, stuff arrived Wednesday. Did I mention that this went from the US to Germany via Air Mail?

Be nice if there was a reasonable singles market..... I can but dream. There just isn't in the UK.

Ebay.com's the answer. I also get a lot of stuff there. It was instrumental in my completion of the older sets, and I usually get those rares I don't pull from the cases there, too. Shipping isn't necessarily that bad, either.

So I ordered from popularcollections.com and CCG Armory this weekend. Popularcollections had a rather high shipping price, though their per mini price was good. They were out of stock for a large number of older minis, though. This only matters if i wait months and months to order singles after successive sets come out, though.

On the whole I'm pleased with my purchases. My price per figure is not bad, and I'm only getting what I want. I'll miss randomly drawing good rares, but I got bad rares often enough that I can live without it. I can always just buy good rares if I want them badly--and normally I don't.

So long as they ship without problem, this will have been a good idea.

Thanks to everyone for their comments.

So I've just about decided to skip buying any boxes of Underdark and instead buy the commons and uncommons I want from that set (and older sets) online. It looks like this strategy could save me money and time (plus no trading online to get what I really want) but I'd like to hear opinions from people that have done it before. Any good or bad stories? Helpful hints? Which websites offer the best prices, shipping, and service?

Thanks!

This is the only way I buy D&D minis. I have had only one bad experience -- a single figure I bought on eBay was shipped in an unpadded envelope and the figure got bent at the ankles, so it "stood" at 90 degrees to its base.

I've had the best luck with Game Rocket and Auggie's (an eBay store). I've also bought from Battle Works and Vesivus with no problems -- they just didn't have as big a selection, prices were a little higher and it took a little longer to get my orders.

Depends on how many minis you want. If you want singles, then trade or buy singles from one of the online stores. If you want lots of specific minis, buy in bulk on Ebay. I find Ebay is not worth it (in terms of shipping) if you're only buying one mini/auction, but it's definitely worth it if you buy lots.

auggies ebay store is the best, in terms of price and selection, IMHO. Also, he has large lots of some commons if you are interested.

Other good shops have been mentioned, but I have had very good experiences with www.frpgames.com 's singles sales (they use a partner shop for their singles actually, but you can buy everthing on the FRPGames site). The choice isn't quite as good as at other shops, but I got everything I ordered promptly.
