[C&C] Holy Smokes ... I'm REALLY Impressed!

Which is a bit silly because C&C is a d20-system based ruleset. :)

C&C draws from all editions, so you would think that its fans would also do the same. If the idea is to promote C&C, then don't push off potential fans by putting down any one edition. Most fans I've spoken to (but not all) go back to prior editions of D&D when adapting to C&C. Nothing wrong with that.

Few adapt from d20, which I think is a shame. How many times do we see threads on these boards where someone is looking for that rules-lite d20 system? There's a decent demand for this sort of subgenre, as seen with Microlite20, Quick20, etc.

To me, C&C should market itself not only as an old-school game that works great with AD&D and basic D&D, it should also market itself as a rules-lite d20-based system. Don't put down the d20 system. Just say, "Hey, for anyone looking for a rules-lite variant, give this a try."

Personally, I think it's great that C&C works with older editions. I know I'm having a blast pulling out old tomes. However, I feel that C&C should be approached as a system that is so well-rounded that it could work with any edition of D&D.

Imagine a game where you are going through a classic module and you're playing a truenamer. Picture a game where you're using the 2e Arms & Equipment Guide side-by-side with the Spell Compendium and Magic Item Compendium. Or a game where you're playing in Eberron or Ptolus and using materials from the AD&D Unearthed Arcana.

This is my vision for C&C. A basic rules set that allows you to play quickly, to customize your game, and to use materials from all editions of D&D.

Dragonhelm - I agree - in fact third-party d20 stuff often seems to work _better_ with C&C than with 3e D&D, because C&C is more an AK47 than a Barrett .50, it's not a finely tuned engine, it's much looser and more forgiving. I'm using Fighting Styles from Mongoose's Quintessential Fighter IM C&C C and don't see any problems.

I have a very strongly houseruled 3.X. How much work would I have to do to convert my game to C&C?

By strongly houseruled, I mean every class but the rogue, every race, every spell list, extra feats, extra races, extra classes, nearly every spell.

Wow! That's a lot of work!

I don't think that it would take too much work, though it depends on what you want to keep from your existing house rules, and what may be covered already with the SIEGE engine. You could, for example, port in your feats and spell lists with little tweaking. You may find that the SIEGE engine already covers the feats, so there's that. Spells could be run as-is with saves being adjusted for arcane/divine magic, or just go with the C&C counterpart.

Ability scores would remain the same, though the modifier changes slightly. Races have the old AD&D style of modifiers with a +1/-1 for ability scores, rather than in increments of two. So some minor tweaking for races.

It really depends on what your house rules look like. Without seeing them, I think you'd mostly have minor tweaking to do. That's my best guess at least. Maybe some of the other Crusaders can give some thoughts too.

I don't know if it's still going on, but the Trolls were running a $10 sale on their books. Even if that's over, the C&C PHB is only $20, so very cheap to acquire.

Nothing against all the C&C love, but could you at least put "C&C" somewhere in the thread title, so that those like me with no interest in the subject don't click on the thread by accident?

Yeah, clicking on the BACK icon is a real pain.

I love the C&C books, however I just wish they officially had all classes up to 20th level.
This is minor but would be nice to have. I saw that someone unofficially did this but would still like it done by Troll Lord Games.

Maybe there will be more expansion books in the future, eh? :)

One of the things I really like is the fact that they developed the illusionist more as a class in of itself. Hoorah!

Oh yes ... thanks for all the unexpected feedback folks! Keep it coming! I find it all very interesting as a newbie to the system!

I love C&C; currently I'm running a C&C Wilderlands PBEM and am about to start a high level C&C tabletop game set in my homebrew world, 4 hours from now. I'm a bit nervous, running a converted 3e adventure (Siege of Durgam's Folly) - hope I get the monster stats right - I think the secret to C&C GMing success is 'sit back & relax, unwind & chill'. :)

Sir!

I have a favor to ask of you. Is there any way we could arrange to put me on the list of your PBEM so I could see an example of how the game works in "real time" as it were?
