Cabin Fever Rant (spoilers)

Well, I'm good and behind the times, but I finally saw this.

Wasn't as bad as I feared it would be, but could've been about an hour shorter if they had clipped some parts from it, especially the hill billy hunting bits.

More of a horror-humor bit than truly horrible, but for a shinning second, it did have potential.

For some reason, IIRC, one guy played like 3 characters in the movie... a camper and a sherriff were the two that I remember..... I'm sure there was something subtly sarcastic and meaningful about that, but I sure don't know what it is...

This may sound stupid, but up until the point they brought the hill billy brigade in, it was working for me to a certain point. Then like A.I., it should've just ended. It became a whole lot more camp once Sheriff Lobo and crew got in on the action.

Hey!! Thanks for the post!!

I found it both amusing and repulsive all at the same time!! ;)

It's sad movies like this are still made, somebody somewhere who gets paid a Lot of money saw the idea for this and thought it would be worth wasting money on!? sad....

I feel strangely ill after reading this...
I better hit myself in the head with a shovel!
I thought the pancakes kid was retarded and the producer retarded for putting something so stupid in the movie. plus Dennis looks like a girl, with retardation

I’ve seen this movie, and it’s…not good. But I like one particular thing about it.

In the early stages of the movie, the protagonists stop at a rural gas station/convenience store run by a stereotypical bearded old white shopkeeper. One of the main characters notices a rifle on the wall over the register, and comments on it. The old man replies, “That’s my n***** gun!” This, of course, draws pained looks from members of the group.

The movie then proceeds apace; people die. Then we see in the denouement the genre-typical plot reset, as another group of urban youths stop at the same store on their way into the wilderness. Except they are all black. As the shopkeeper sees their car rolls in, he goes inside…

When the driver gets to the register, he greets the old man, who looks at him, then breaks into a big smile, “My n****!”, and participates in a friendly, intricate greeting dap, then reaches for the rifle. He then hands it to the driver, “I got it all ready for you, just the way you wanted it…”

IOW, the filmmakers bookended their movie with a joke! They waited forever between setup and punchline. It’s an effective comedic break, and it took a level of disciplined storytelling to commit that to screen, as well as NOT editing it out.

I don’t think many filmmakers could do the same, TBH.

I appreciated that joke, but it could not save what was, IMHO, a truly terrible movie, not even involuntarily fun.
