call lightning has an effect on the caster embuing them with the power to call down bolts of lightning.
so can you share this with your animal companion?

The effect is not on you but on the clouds, you call the clouds to shoot lighting as a standard action.

for example, im pretty sure a targeted dispel wouldn't get rid of call lighting on you, but the clouds magical properties could be dispelled

I bow to your superior powergaming. This one is really funny. :D

I agree with awayfarer that "you" is not the target of the spell in the sense you are thinking of. And the business end of this spell is not one you would normally choose to share with an ally.

Call lightning is not a spell that "she casts upon herself." The spell is "Effect: One or more 30-ft.-long vertical lines of lightning."

On the other hand, I would allow the caster to target herself with one of the bolts and have that also affect the animal companion. That might be useful if they're both shambling mounds.

Evocation [Electricity]
Level: Drd 3
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 round
Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Effect: One or more 30-ft.-long vertical lines of lightning
Duration: 1 min./level
Saving Throw: Reflex half
Spell Resistance: Yes

It's "Effect" spell not a "Target" spell.

Since there is no Target: "you" or Target: "personal", no sharing of the spell with an animal companion or familiar.

Share Spells (Ex): At the druid’s option, she may have any spell (but
not any spell-like ability) she casts upon herself also affect her animal
companion. The animal companion must be within 5 feet of her at the
time of casting to receive the benefit. If the spell or effect has a duration
other than instantaneous, it stops affecting the animal companion if the
companion moves farther than 5 feet away and will not affect the animal
again, even if it returns to the druid before the duration expires.
Additionally, the druid may cast a spell with a target of “You” on her
animal companion (as a touch range spell) instead of on herself.

note that it does not limit the spell to being a target spell just that the spell be normaly "cast opon herself"

then it adds that we can cast target "you" spells on the animal as a ranged touch spell

so call lighting is cast on me just as produce flame is cast on me.

as for the idea that its cast on the clouds well thats interesting because you dont need clouds, it can be cast underground, and it moves with you.

now i like that an animal cant understand how to call down lightning thats reasonable but as a master or many forms i can wildshape into the same animal as my companion and talk to it maybe i can teach it to call the lightning as a trick.

No, it's not. It's not cast on you at all. It produces an Effect , it doesn't do anything to you. You may be able to control the Effect of the spell, but the spell is not cast on you.

Just like Produce Flame is not cast on you.

To be "cast on you" it has to be a Targeted spell, not an "Effect" spell. It has to have a target of "you", "personal", "creature touched", or something similar.

sideline distinction.

It does not say as "a ranged touch spell" it says as "a touch range spell" (which should actually be "touch-range spell") because it is a spell with a Range: Touch designation instead of Range: 0 designation.

Minor but significant point. You must be able to physically touch the companion to share the spell.
