Homebrew (for several campaigns).

I've been thinking about going published for a more stable setting but I have not really found a setting that I like. I was modestly impressed with Pathfinder, though.

Interesting results, from my point of view. I would have thought that Published would have out polled Homebrew.
Agreed! That's what I would've expected, too.

One of those times I'm quite glad to be in the majority, as it happens. 'Cause I loves me some homebrewing.

I've tried to run adventure paths in published campaign worlds, and I end up giving them up or smashing them to pieces. I can't stand the limitations on my creativity, or something. I guess I just get bored.

Right now I'm running a published setting (Ptolus) but since I'm the only one with access to any of the setting beyond the player's guide and a few handouts, I'm able to "do as I wish" without worry.

Next campaign (in a couple of years, probably), I'll go back to my own homebrewed world of 25+ years. I find that after 1 1/2 campaigns away, I miss it intensely!

In fact, I'm finding myself spending as much time working on my campaign world, as I am in doing adventures for my current campaign. They fulfill two very different creative needs.

I actively avoid homebrew settings for one particular reason: every single homebrew setting I have been in in the past 10ish years screws with the system to the point of unbalancing it. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind slightly unbalanced homebrew class/PrC (to bump up the power of the fighter slightly or change the flavor of a different class or etc). But gimping a class to the point of unplayable is where I draw the line.

I love paying wizards and wizard is ALWAYS #1 in line for gimping. One homebrew setting (used the FR map, but that was the only way it resembled the FR setting) made all arcane spellcasters unplayable. Every spell you had to roll an ever increasingly difficult concentration check until you horribly failed, suffered major penalties and then it reset itself. Screw that. Give me a published setting with the base system.

My campaigns probably wouldn't bother you. I like the wizard class, so I toss in the goodies for them. But then, I seldom see any real need to futz with the classes much.

I use both Homebrew and Published, depending on what my players vote for prior to us starting a game.

Published settings used are Eberron and the old Realms.
