Can a nude Changeling make it look like its wearing clothes?

Hey all,

Do you think a nude Changeling could create the appearance of clothing on its body, thereby apparently changing outfits with every morph, like Mystique from the X-Men films or the T-1000 from Terminator 2?

Agree. Read up, boyo!
I perused that thread, and it doesn't address my current question. It seems like they'd be able to do it. I could see a Changeling wearing boots (so they don't run around barefoot) and a loose loincloth (for modesty) then just morphing clothes onto the rest of their bare skin, and changing the appearance of them as the situation calls for it.

Nope. All it can change is its physical form.

If you're worried about changing clothes, it's best to invest in a shiftweave suit (from the Sharn book, pg. 170-1). Each suit has up to five outfits "embedded" into the cloth, and can transform from one to another with a free action and a command word. Can't have armor or magical garments embedded into it, and can't be "re-programmed" after creation. Only 500 gp.

Even better: Vestment of Many Styles (from Races of Eberron) - you can choose how it looks like as a standard action with a command word, it gives +2 on Disguise, but does not change armor. And still only 500 gp.

No. Otherwise there would have been no point in specifying that it can only change its body and not its clothes.

Cheers

Which is why I'm not talking about a Changeling who's wearing clothes. How is changing from a featureless grey humanoid into a hulking hobgoblin with skin discolorations and muscles any different than changing into a humanoid that *looks* like its wearing clothes, even when its really nude?

Mystique from the X-Men movies can't change any clothing she'd wear either, which is why she doesn't wear any. I want to know what prevents a Changeling from doing the same thing.

From the Ask Keith thread at WOTC's boards:

A Nope. This is what separates the changeling from, say, the doppelganger. The changeling can change the appearance of its body, but not to the degree of mimicking clothing or equipment.

Basically, the changeling can only get flesh to mimic flesh, and hair to mimic hair, and so on. It can't get flesh to mimic cloth.
