Can a Warlock use invocations in a grapple?

all invocations, including eldritch blast, have a somatic component

Where did you see this? I saw the a mention that the somatic components are relatively simple, but I didn't see where it stated that all invocations have a somatic component.

That's not concrete enough for you?

Oh, the mention under Weapon and Armor Proficiencies for the Warlock is enough for me, and enough for my players in game. However, I have one player who likes to debate these things outside of game, and I'd like to have something ironclad. The quote you mentioned above is as ironclad as it gets, but I couldn't find it.

But even Warlocks can use their invocations in a grapple (well, once per day with Sudden Still :D), and then they still have to concentrate as with spellcasting in a grapple (DC 20+SL).
Sudden Still and other metamagic feats do not work with spell-like abilities, so single-classed Warlocks cannot use them.

Or, did you mean something else?

Complete Arcane's explicitly allows sudden metamagic feats to work with spell-like abilities. It even says that Sudden Still works on invocations.

Ah, missed that comment in the beginning of the chapter.

Right below the part you saw there. Just continue to read. :)

Bye
Thanee

I read the section, and it states that the somatic components for invocations are simple enough that light armor doesn't restrict you, but heavier armor does.

The fact that it expressly states that the somatic components are simple enough that they're not hindered by light armor, but are restricted by anything heavier says that there are somatic components.

I don't understand how there's any confusion on the matter.

"The somatic components for invocations are simple enough that..." = Invocations have somatic components, but they're relativly simple.

Yep, tho that's not as clear as the part below (as quoted by me above).

Well, it's official, I must be blind. I swear that I read that passage several times and didn't see that sentence you quoted Thanee. Then I read it again a few moments ago and *bam!* there it is.

Much thanks. :)
