Can a warmage benefit from Extra Spell?

The primary weakness of the warmage class is its complete lack of defensive magics. The Extra Spell feat allows a spellcaster to add to his spell list a spell he does not have. By the RAW, is there anything preventing a 12th-level warmage from adding greater invisibility to his spell list with the Extra Spell feat from Complete Arcane? That would nicely solve the class's most glaring deficiency.

If I wanted to play a wizard with cure spells, I'd just take the Arcane Disciple (Healing domain) feat; instead of one cure spell for one feat, you get them all for the same cost. :)

Whoa--I just had a thought. Screw Extra Spell--warmage with Arcane Disciple.

*runs off happily to scour Complete Arcane again*

My Paladin/Warmage are planning to take Arcane Disciple (Healing) at the next level. It will help him (and his buddies) survive. For defense, he is wearing a suit of Mithral Heavy Plate (He is only 4th-level as a Warmage but has Battlecaster feat).

If I have a chance, I want to try Warmage/Rainbow Servant 10. Cleric Spell access could be sweet.

Okay, here it is. Warmage with Arcane Disciple (Protection domain). Sanctuary, Protection from Energy, Spell Immunity, Spell Resistance, Antimagic Field, Repulsion, Mind Blank, and Prismatic Sphere. All for a single feat--all added to the warmage spell list, all capable of being cast just like any other warmage spell (at will in any combination, up to the #/day).

Yeah. Sign me up. :D

Extra Spell lets you pick a new spell from your clas slist. SInce Warmages know all spells on thier list, it wouldnt do anything for them. Now, the Arcane Disciple feat....

Thats some nice stuff!!

Most likely.
For the reasons that will come out in THAT discussion, I am of the opinion that the feat is intended for use with spells that are on the class' spell list only. Since the Warmage automatically knows all spells on his/her spell list, the feat is not useful to a Warmage.

Hmm. I considered that, but nowhere in the feat description of Extra Spell does it state that the spell you choose must be on your class list. Has it been errata'd, or is that a house rule?

But the feat neither says you can break the usual rules for choosing spells from certain list.

Also, the feat does not grant you the ability to cast a spell which your class cannot usually cast. So even if you can learn spells from other lists, you cannot cast it.
