Can anyone explain the logic behind the silent treatment?

Why expend energy on a total stranger, especially one you don't like?

An e-mail and/or phone message is a courtesy, not a requirement.

As I stated, I offered one possibility for the "silent treatment" which was conflict avoidance.

You offered a different possibility, that it could be discourtesy.

Well, I'm about as non-confrontational as it gets, and I still have the decency to let people know that I can't make a game if it is at all possible. It's just the polite thing to do. Too bad many people are too selfish to understand this face. I've had several people flake on me on gamer seeking gamer boards as well. Luckily, we didn't absolutley need more players at the time.

What one Wizzy?
A Shackled City game that was already restarted by a new DM after the previous incarnation of it died. I'm going to go to my grave never knowing how close we got to rescuing those freaking orphans.

Weren't you planning on running a Ptolus pbp?
I still am, but I'm a newspaper reporter, and the election is kicking my tail all over the place -- I'm currently doing double the amount of work I do in a normal week -- so it's on hold until November.

No biggie. I told him he could just jump on-board next session. Today was the next session, and once again, no show. This time I called the guy's cell about six times throughout the day, and his home twice. No answer, and as it's now after 10 pm, he's had plenty of time to check for messages.

If it were me, I wouldn't return your calls either. Eight calls in a day about a D&D game: the DM's a stalker.

Really -- it's just a game. Since it doesn't sound like this person is a close friend, don't get too emotionally invested. Call and leave a message. Try one more time a day or two later. If it isn't returned, or no contact, quit. If the player is motivated enough, he'll eventually show up, and when he does, you'll be pleasantly surprised. You can have a guest player for a session, or on occasion. The individual will probably either start to show up regularly, or disappear in short order.
