Can I apply Fiendish template to constructs?

In the next adventure, I am planning to put a guardian of a Yuan-Ti temple, a gargantuan animated statue of snake, made of iron. I wonder if I can add fiendish template on it. That thing will get both hardness of 10 and DR of 10/+3. Is it possible?

Now, a construct is an artifically created creature, or an animated object.

The fiendish template is applied to creatures. Given this, animated objects cannot be Fiendish. Fiendish creatures are due to being from a lower plane; I don't think the very stone of a lower plane is polluted by the area.
 

The statue is going to be Magically animated...

Can you not have it be created in such a way, for it to have the Hardness 10, and Damage resistence of 10/+3?

That is the way I personally would go about it.

But in responce to your question, I think the above post answers it quite well.. A template is applied to a living creature, and Constructs just arent alive.
 

I would say YES!

If you take it as an artificially constructed creature (NOT an animated object), then why not? IMvHO

Either way, it sounds cool. go for it!

You can do anything you like; you're the DM. The animated statue has stats, it has an attack bonus, saves, skill points, a CR, and everything else that a creature has. Nothing mechanically will be broken by slapping a few template frills on it; although your players might complain about something with effectively DR 20 if they don't have +3 weapons, and DR 10 if they do.
 


The fiendish template can be applied to any nongood corporeal creature.

A golem is a nongood corporeal creature.

If you look up "creature" in the PHB glossary, it says, "A living or otherwise active being, not an object." (italics mine)
 

I don't believe it is intended that constructs have both hardness and damage reduction.

If you look in the MM you will notice:

Animated Objects have Hardness, but not Damage Resistance.

Golems have Damage Resistance, but not Hardness.

I think it's just supposed to be one or the other. It's your game of course, and you can design whatever unique monsters you wish.

Very nasty monster Shin Okada.

I would allow it, just call it an Infernal Machine.
 

Also why not have everysote from the lower planes imbued with "feindish" elements. The iron golem could be made from the iron riped from the very bowels of the Abyss. I say there is nothing wrong with giving the template to the construct.

I think I will make some fiendish undead. Animated demons and devils from the bloodwar sound pretty cool to.

Remeber you are the DM do what you want.
