Can I buy any good magic items for 1000 gp?

A Flaming Greatsword might sound nice, but it is costs 8.350 pieces of gold (not 2.350, not 1.000 gp !)

Weapons and Armors with special abilities must be magical of at least +1 before getting any of those nifty things.

I second that. That's five battering rams, boats, food (acorns!), and blockades.

I have found that 'one use' magic items (with the exception of scrolls and potions) most often sit on someone's character sheet and never get used. People are really hesitant to use it as then it is gone 'forever' (or until you can get another one). I, myself, much prefer permanent magical items and my Barbarian/Sorcerer's first magical device was a cloak of resistance. I like it so much I made 3 of them! (for other party members obviously). +1 to all saves is great and you can increase the plus as you get more money (max +5). If you can save some cash and go for Boots of Striding and Springing - those are next on my list of 'things to make' (along with Gloves of Dexterity and a Helm of Ogre Power for our Battle Cleric)
